voice control
hi,
i had a flick through the archives and saw some old posts about various opinions on voice control for winamp, but wanted to get up-to-date feedback on where things are at. its obviously feasible (technology wise), no matter how much people give out about how good / bad it is. are there any plans to add voice control to future versions of winamp? if not, would an experienced C++ / .NET programmer like myself (with a lot of time on my hands) be able to write a plugin that would do the job? tim.

I think it would be sort cool, but I'd never actually use it.
![]() I think it would be quite a job to do properly. The plugin would probably end up larger than Winamp itself. But then, I'm not really up to date on voice recognition technology. There might be better algorithms and such available now. For the freedom to express myself in my own way without fear of being censored or banned.47 65 6C 61 65 64 2E 63 6F 6D 00 |

I think it would be a bit counterproductive, considering that Winamp outputs audio. But I don't know, I'm not sure how effective modern voice and microphone technology is at localizing sound.

anyone experienced with plugins??
hi guys, thanks for the replies.
of course all those points are correct, but.... who cares these days if its 1mb or 10mb? plugins are optional so only those that want it would use it. and, about the output audio / input mic problem, just move the mic away from the speakers, (say 2-3 metres), and reduce the gain on the mic. i've tested this with software and it works. my main reason for asking this question is: i have my computer upstairs in my room stuffed to the teeth with mp3s. and downstairs, in the kitchen / dining room say, there's just a plain old cd player. i have patched a line out from my computer speakers down to the kitchen, and by issuing voice commands through a mic downstairs that is connected to my sound card, i can remotely play any playlist.... obviously way better than cds. that's the plan, anyway, at the minute, i can get it to work fine with 'Talk2Desktop' that can open / close winamp with command line arguments indicating playlists, but i have no control over winamp itself, like pause, next, clear, etc. i have a final year project to do next year for my comp.sys. degree and i think a winamp voice rec. plugin would kick ass. has anyone had experience designing plugins, is it feasable for a 6 month part time project (but intensive all the same)? thanks tim |
