Can a skin look like this?

Today i was trying a new transperancy plugin and when i placed winamp in the middle of my screen it looked like this:

Is it possible to make a skin that actually looks like this for winamp 2.xx, because i think it looks cool.

WOW that does look good and yes! it can be done
I wish I had time to do it, I would .. but I don't have the time right now

and I have to ask you this - is that just the base skin thats showing through the background? cause if it isn't - you'll have to get permission from the original author before you go messing with it.

The skin was made by Chupickov Petr (some russian guy i think) and is called Skilled warrior. The readme is totally in russian or something, so i don't think the author speaks/writes english very well.
Asking him might be a problem

I don't make skins myself, but when i saw the way it looked i just thought it would make a very nice skin.
If this can't be done in 2.xx i think i will start using 3.xx very soon

it can be done in v2.xx but the moon on the playlist would have to go. the border can stay (but I expect its part of the original skin already)

since you can obviously do screen shots - and you want the skin just for you anyway - why not grab the screen shot and a skinner.exe generator - and viola! you have made your very own skin

I would definitely mention the original skin author in your comments should you decide to publish it at winamp.com

Russian or not - it would be disrespectful to any artist to publish their work under your name - and he's less likely to get mad about it if someone reports it as a rip if he's mentioned in your comments

also, never underestimate the power of the internet - send him an email (if his address is in the readme file or whatever) asking him in english if he is willing to update his skin with your background and if he's not then ask if you can have his permission to do it. If you don't get a reply in english, then try any number of translators on the internet.

I tried a couple of programs to create skins, but it didn't work very well.
Is there a program that you recommend to make skins, and isn't too complicated?
Without the image in the playlist it just doesn't look as good as it would with it.

I would suggest you get a copy of template amp (you'll have to search for it) and use the layer files to cut out the pieces you need manually

I suppose thats a little advanced for you though

I personally use Paint Shop Pro - I swear by it - but a lot of people like Photoshop

unfortunately, the playlist image isn't going to show, no matter what you do - I'm not aware if its possible in wa3 or not - but in wa2, the playlist is based on a txt file (pledit.txt), and therefore can only be modified in color and font - no images allowed there
that could be ignored I guess - with a straight black playlist - but the image on the border isn't going to work because the playlist extends and tiles (and overlaps) a 20x25 pixel square.. so you'd end up with repetitive pieces of the moon

with a lot of adjustments you might be able to fake your way through it - but nothing done on wa2 is going to look as clean as your screen shot

the main and the eq would come out fine - its that damned playlist thats going to mess it all up

Sorry, I can't recommend a skin generator, I've never used one.

The only problem with doing this is that it will be ripping a skin, therefore you wont be able 2 submit to winamp.com because of the no-rip policy, and if you put in other skin sites comments that you copied from another skin, but with some transparency set on, they would probably be very un-keen, unless you can get permission, why not use an internet translator and try and translate his readme file,

then type out a request for permission, use the translator to translate it 2 his language and send it him, also his ICQ number is 55135950 or i would at least assume its his ICQ there is a very good chance that he won be using the same email, been as the skin is dated feb 2000

(btw i don't know how to skin so if someone else wants to make this skin it's fine with me, and if that russian guy is ok with it you just have to put my name in the readme)
