There is no Netscape 5. You *may* be able to get IE5 from the 95 area of microsofts website, as I beleive that 5.5 and 6 won't go on 95. I really wouldn't know.
You can get every version of Netscape from http://home.netscape.com/download/archive.html. Good luck to you, -=Gonzotek=- But I'm feeling much better now. |

erm, thats weird. if 5.5 sp2 doesn't run on 95, I guess thats not 5.5 sp2 I put on a couple 95 machines. So in other words, yes, 5.5 sp2 DOES run on 95 machines. and if I were you, thats what I'd be running.

im still gonna use IE, but i just needed an alternate browser for one webpage. its a half real, half online course, and they are not supporting netscape 6 or IE 6, because of the security holes. i got netscape 4.8, and it works fine for what i need it for, so its all good-

why the hell does it not support IE 6??? If it works in IE 5 it works in IE 6 unless its some strange DHTML this site is using
Anyways here are some helpful tidbits Uninstall IE 6 if you have it installed before installing IE 5. Have fun doing it Find an old AOL cd and put it in. Dont install AOL because AOL is evil but those CD's have versions of Internet Explorer on them. If you find the right version you can get IE 5.0. Opera offers a great alternative for web browsing. If you like Netscape 6 dont. Use mozilla from mozilla.org its more of an indy browser but it kicks ass. Still you should keep a lite version of Netscape 4x for nostaligic reasons or for sites that dont work in IE. Why again cant you use IE 6? What are you using right now? I'm Back? |

Conspiracy theory
The admin got the pages rendered right in version 4-5 browsers, not by staying standards-compliant but by incremental hacking. As a result, those pages got jumbled up when displayed in version 6 browsers. He/She wants to avoid the extra work of atoning for his/her own sins.

opera is great you can have it identify itself as any browser so that coding for rejecting IE anything is useless.

Have you gone ahead and tried to remove IE6 from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel? I installed IE6, and didn't like it. When I went to uninstall it, it gave me 3 options.
1. Repair existing version. 2. Uninstall IE 3. Restore previous version of IE. I chose option 3 and it restored IE back to 5.5 SP2 with no problems. If you don't get these options, you can always cancel the uninstall. If someone has already suggested this idea specifically and I missed it, sorry for the unnecessary post. |

i got opera and it works fine, so i guess problem solved. i thought this thread died? guess not. anyway, thanks for the continued help, this forum is great for retards like me who need a specific question answered. thanks again
randman, the post wasnt pointless, it let me waste 2 more minutes of my life reading and typing thanks, though, ill actually end up reverting to 1e5, the only reason i got 6 was because 5 wouldnt see the .png image files on these boards. i dont know, its working now, - - - look how much i wrote about nothing! time to go to sleep? yes.
