W00t!

Today I took delivery of my new computer screen. it is a sharp 16" (1280x1024) TFT and i am well chuffed with it.

http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-in...?quicklinx=ZH4

It just sits on the corner of my desk taking up literally no space compared to my big old clunkey 17" CRT and is so easy on my eyes.

My computer is just soooo sweet now. All i need is a wireless keyboard and mouse to complete it.

Who else has just got a sweet new bit of kit?

Dell Inspiron laptop. 512mb RAM, 30gig drive, 15.1 in./1600x1200 res, firewire, s-video (and composite) out, digital sound out, built-in cd, modular cdrw/dvd-player, modular floppy, second battery (fits in the modular bay, so I can run for 6+ hours on batteries, uninterrupted), IR. Built-in 56k and 10/100baseT, so I still have my pc-card slots.

All that, and I still have most regular ports - serial, printer, monitor, ps/2, 2 USB, line-in, line-out, mic.

The screen looks great, even at non-standard resolutions (I'm using 1280x1024 right now). At 1600x1200, though small, everything is *SO* crsytal clear and crisp!

I've been doing the happy dance since I received it at the end of Nov. My legs are starting to get tired, though.

I've been thinking of getting a jukebox mp3 player. Now that I've got the fatty laptop, it isn't as important, but I still want one .

Did you try any other brands/models before settling on the Nomad? Sound is, of course, the most important feature, but I'm also interested in reliability, battery use, the screen qualities, and how easily it hooks up to the computer. Also how fast the hookup is -- 1 thing the iPod has going for it that can't be argued with is the firewire connection. Not that I'm about to spend $400.

My other thought is to go with a data-cd based mp3 player, but my experiences with them so far have been negative. The two makes I tried both played music, but beyond that were lacking in usability, battery use, etc.

8/8/32 is kind of a slow burner for a new system.

i just bought an LG 16/10/40 for $70. they have rather good reviews online, especially with it's unique buffer overrun protection to prevent those cd coasters.
i'm not buying a new system until this summer. i'll laugh at those "top of the line" models y'all are getting.

I definitley recommend this player. Although it may be a bit heavy,it holds almost all of my music, and besides, its not that heavy. i can easily slip it into my jeans pocket while im walking my dog so i can listen to it,and i can hardly feel it.

although i didn`t try any other mp3 players out,i read the reviews from not only the reviewers, but the customers as well. and overall,i summed up the nomad jukebox as the best. as for the screen size, absolutely huge...but some of my longer filenames don`t show up fully and it really pisses me off that it doesnt just scroll the name. the reliabilty,i wouldn`t know too much about becuase i just got mine last month, but it works great. and the case is plastic, but extremely tough plastic...i was surpirised to see that it was tough when i got it. as for battery use...it`s ok,but if you turn off the lcd when playing a song,it conserves energy much better, and for long car trips or something like that, you can easily just buy the car adapter. and hooking up the player to the PC was a breeze. i didnt even have to look at the directions,i just saw the USB plug and plugged it in,then i put in the cd,and there ya go,i was ready. i can not express to you how much i love this thing, and screw that bar of soap ipod, get this. and ipod doesn`t even work with PC`s i don`t think...and this holds 15 more gigs for 50 dollars less!

640 megs SDR PC133 Ram (512 + 128)
80 gig WD HD, plus 10gig bigfoot (90 gigs, no RAID yet.)
