Winamp responsible for no sound on my computer?
Hey!
I´ve installed Winamp 2.78 -again. A month ago i used Windows 98 and all of a sudden starting winamp as usual, it simply would not play any sounds from the intire computer. No sound from my speakers at all!! (Allthough it looks like my Winamp is playing!) Now today I´ve installed Windows ME instead, in the hope that my sound would appear again! And it DID - for example the sound of Windows starting - untill i downloaded Winamp 2.78 again, and installed it AGAIN and here my problem came AGAIN! Now all my sounds are gone, and I am pretty sure, that my winamp is responsible for my missing sound! The re-install used my old skins and plugins. Could that be the problem? Is there some plugins, that destroys the sound on the computer? Or is the problem something else?? Please help, and ask for more options if neccesary. Thanks. Benny |

Which plugins exactly?
Are you saying that there's no sound on your computer even when winamp is closed? ![]() What is your soundcard? Have you checked for latest available drivers? Many older soundcards don't support the playback of multiple audio streams. Have you tried using DirectSound Output? (Prefs -> Plugins -> Output) You might also need to upgrade DirectX drivers for this to work properly. |

Winamp responsible...??
Hmm
I upgrated directX 8.o to 8.1 and I have still no sound on my computer -at all!! Even when Winamp is not running. After updating directX I can only hear the silly sound like a 'firecamp' in my speakers. Even from my sourround-speakers, which I also use on my computer I can hear the annoying sound. My soundcard Yamaha DS1 was allready updated (I´ve updated nearly all of my drivers today installing Windows ME) Perhaps my soundcard is too old , but then why did it work untill resently? Nullsoft Direct Sound-plugin v2.0 was already installed in Output Also: -Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in v2.0a (x86) (OUT_DISK.DLL) -Nullsoft WMA Output plugin v0.90 (X86) (OUT_WM.DLL) -Nullsoft waveOut plugin v2.3 (OUT_WAVE.DLL) was installed under 'OUTPUT'. All my 'INPUTS' are: -Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder 2.76b69 (IN_MP3.DLL) -Microsoft WINAMP/WMA plug-in v1.11 (x86) (IN_WM.DLL) -Mjuice Secure MP3 Decoder (x86) (IN_MJF.DLL) -Nullsoft Waveform Decoder v2.Oa (x86) (IN_Wave.DLL) -Nullsoft CD/Lineln plug-in (CDDB2) v2.o (IN_CDDA.DLL) -Nullsoft Module Decoder v2.2.10 beta1 (x86) IN_MOD.DLL) -Winamp2 MIDI plug-in v2.6e (IN_MIDI.DLL) Is it saying anything? I hope so, cause I miss the sound pretty much! Thanks for trying! Benny |

Yes, they're all the default plugins. There's no 3rd-party plugins in that list.
Whichever Output plugin is selected becomes the active one. One must be selected at all times, and only one can be selected at once. ![]() Did you try selecting DirectSound? (ie. make it the active Output Plugin) By 3rd-party plugins, I was mainly referring to General Purpose & DSP/FX. Are those two sections empty in Winamp Prefs? As to why there's no sound on your pc apart from crackling in the speakers, well this suggests something else entirely. Perhaps the Yamaha DS1 is on its last legs? Could be time to think about getting a new card? Though you should still look for updated soundcard drivers, because there's a chance that the default WinME ones aren't fully compatible. Also make sure it's not your speakers playing up. Check they're plugged in properly and the leads are fully intact. I suppose you've already checked Windows Volume Control and made sure all the sliders are up high enough and none of them are muted? Further tips here: RE: Winamp keeps turning my volume up/down http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=32675 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=73354 The second link includes screenshots showing where Winamp's volume slider is

Perhaps WinAMP just has its voluem set to 0%. And since WinAMP's volume slider directly controls Windows' Volume Control, everything would be mute if that's the case, so it would all make sense*…

HEY it actually DID make sence. It was just the tiny little volume-button, whitch I nearly cannot see in my Mickey-Mouse-skin
I was ready to do anything, and I could´nt imagine, that Winamp controlled all the sound on my computer??! That sounds weird, but now I have learned that. Thank you very much both of you!!! BNY |
