Problem opening files 2.78c
Just downloaded the upgrade and installed it and unfortunatly whenever I try to open the filebrowser to change songs the program freezes. It appears to be trying to open the filebrowser but it just sits there. I've let it run as long as half an hour without it doing anything. If I minimize it during this time or switch to another window it won't come back up afterwards and if I do a CTRL+ALT+DEL it says it's not responding.
Now this shouldn't be a problem with my system as I had a previous version of winamp installed right before this and did a general update of it and it worked fine before the update. Winamp 3 works fine on my system as well but for some reason this one won't work right. Any thoughts/clues/suggestions/fixes? System: 1.2GhZ AMD Athlon 128mb Ram Creative Soundblaster Live (No there were no .dll files in my plugins directory either, never have been.) P.S. Just noticed something else... as soon as I press the open button the entire program freezes yet music still plays. Timer, visualizations, the whole enchilada. |

dlls
What I had meant by that was that everyone says to delete the gen_*.dll files from the plugin folder if you're running a soundblaster system and I was meaning that as that I did not have those particular *.dlls in the folder, not that I had no dlls in the folder. Just not those.

If relevant, remove ALL 3rd-party plugins, especially gen_*.dll's and any replacement input plugins, eg. in_mp3pro.dll, in_mad.dll
Apart from that: From: TSGH -> Useful Links Troubleshooter Guides: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....827#post275827 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....166#post308166 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....029#post440029 (the 3rd link might be the most relevant one ^here^) ![]() If all else fails: Basic Uninstall -> Reinstall procedure If the problem persists, run an up-to-date virus scanner and ScanDisk (or OS equivalent). Also make sure you've got all the correct & latest hardware drivers, plus all the latest service packs for your OS. |

And then what do you do if you do all of the above and the problem still persists? Is it still user error or an actual bug? BTW, since it wasn't noted above, due to an error on my part, my OS is Window$ ME. Yes, I know the fact that Micro$oft is probably half the problem in and of it self, but thats aside from the point.

i think the problem might be with how many files you have...i uninstalled and then reinstalled, clicked add file and went to the folder where my songs are and it took about 3 minutes for it to appear. i have 2000 mp3s, i don't know if it's trying to read the id3 tags before i add them to winamp or what...don't know if that helps any but it's what i've seen so far

That would make marginal sense I believe considering I have well over 5 gigs of MP3s and if it's trying to read all those tags...*shudders to think how long it will take*
