Playlist Freezes My XP

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong place, or if there's another posting about this somewhere (I've probed deep into the depths of the forum and have yet to find anything specific to my needs).

Whenever I use Winamp to play an mp3 or a cd, everything works fine, until I try to switch songs using the playlist. If I so much as click on a song in the playlist, the music keeps playing, but my computer freezes and I get these static looking lines at the top of my screen. I really love Winamp (and am too lazy to use the next/previous buttons to switch songs), and hope someone can help me with this.

I'm running Windows XP Pro
650 MHz PIII
SoundBlaster Live soundcard (and yes, I checked for the gen_*.dll files, they're not there)

Thanks in advance for any help, if there's any information I've neglected, I apologize, just leave a post and I'll respond quickly (as I'm sure I'll check this every half hour --- I need my Winamp!)

Probably a WinXP drivers issue.
Check the manufacturers' sites for updated video and sound card drivers.
Also make sure your speakers (or no other magnets) are too near the monitor.

As for Winamp...
If you've installed any, remove all 3rd-party plugins,
particularly General Purpose (gen_*.dll).
btw, are you using one of the default Output Plugins?
You're advised to use DirectSound Output with WinXP.

After reinstalling, try this official update patch:
