Can you give some more details?
Are you sure your volume is not turned down?

Maybe your MP3 codec has flown the coop.

Radium is a replacement for the standard Fraunhofer MP3 codec that is meant to (supposedly) encode better, however it works for playback. Give it a try.

it still doesn't work.

ok..
I don't think there is any problem with mp3 file.
If I play file(even demo), it starts to show some graphic movement
but not sound. No number(supposely to be play time), no sound (my speaker is on. I can play my music CD), no nothing!!!!!
Even graphic moves for 1 or 1.5second. and it stops.
I opened plug-in folder to see what's there. All I see was about AVS. Am I supposed to see "MPEG decoder"?? Where are all these plug-in's except visual ones? Just thought it might be the problem unless they are not supposed to be shown.
Please HELP............Please.........................

Have you checked the simple things first??? Go to your windows volume control and check that the wave and master volume are turned up and not muted.

Also, in Winamp, go to preferences (CTRL-P) -> plugins -> output and make sure that the Nullsoft Waveout plugin is selected from the list. If that doesn't work, go back to plugins -> output and select the Directsound plugin instead.

I'm going to be kicking myself all day if this is just another stupid DiskWriter problem.

Disk Writer is an output plug-in that, rather than having the song play, makes a giant WAV-file copy of it on your hard drive. The effect when you press play is, there is no sound, and the scroll-bar moves across WinAMP very fast as it decodes to WAV.

The reason I made that comment is, many other users have inadvertently switched the output plug-in to Disk Writer and then come here wondering "why MP3's won't play".

Can you play mp3's in other players, eg. WMP?

Have you tried reloading the mp3's into the playlist?
List button -> New
Add button -> Add file/dir

How about some sys specs?
Even soundcard details & Windows OS would be a helpful start.

Have you definitely tried everything the guys mentioned above, including the exact uninstall -> reinstall procedure?

I am having the same freakin problem as soogie11. For some reason, recently, Winamp just stopped playing mp3's. Whether I open them from winamp, drag them on, or double click mp3's... they appear to start, go about 1 second with no sound then it just stops. I've uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail, I followed all the options tips from the link posted above, and still nothing. I don't get it. I have never had a problem with Winamp in like 4 years of using it. It did work fine on this computer for at least 6 months. mp3's play just fine in WMP. Only difference I've made was selecting the DirectSound output option, the progress slider went all the way through the file like it does when playing normally or when using te out_disk output, but I got no sound. And yes my volume is on and working.

ok, just followed the uninstall link instructions to the t and removed the wild tangent stuff and now it works. I don't know what the problem was, maybe the winamp.ini file or something. the wild tangent stuff worked fine while it was installed. who knows. thanks for the links.

ok, back again, scratch that last post. played the demo file fine immediately after install, tried to play a webradio station that I used to always listen to in Winamp and now it doesn't work again. Neither do regular mp3's. grrr.

Make sure you have the correct & latest available drivers for your soundcard. And if you're going to use the DirectSound Output plugin, make sure you've got the latest version of DirectX.
Run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool for details:
Start -> Run -> dxdiag.exe

Does the problem also occur with the WaveOut plugin?

You said you followed the uninstall->reinstall instructions "to a t"
so does this mean you now have no 3rd-party plugins installed? Or did you reinstall WT and any other extra plugins? If so, which ones exactly? (including any replacement mp3 input plugins, eg. in_mp3pro.dll)

I'll be sure to check the sound drivers and DX out, DX should be current, I'm pretty good about keeping that current.
