MMSYSTEM004 nullsoft waveout error msg

I am getting quite frustrated... Everytime I open winamp, then double-click a song to play, an error msg comes up, and the only way to stop it is to ctr-alt-del

I re-open winamp and try again, same thing. over, and over, and over..... The error msg box title says Nullsoft wavOut Plug-in v2.3 The message in the box says MMSYSTEM004 The specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, then try again. There is nothing using sound whatsoever! I haven't changed a thing. What do I do?? Thanks for any input. Nocturnia

Even if you aren't playing any other sounds, switching to the DirectSound output plugin should solve the issue.
