There is no problem. When you use the switch user function in XP all you running applicatiions are somewhat minimized in a way but they are still running in the background. Winamp works with windows XP is that it uses global sound resources. Kinda like other programs that produce sound. If you leave it running in the same manner you would here it in the background as well.

if you give your sister an administrator enabled account...

then she can use 'task manager/users tab(ctrl+alt+del)' to log out of your account.

instead of just switching users...you could log off

that way your sister would hear no sound.

this is a silly windows feature..not a winamp problem

I'm wondering if its a Winamp/Windows Xp conflict. Okay, heres an idea, have you tried installing Winamp3 while logged on as your sister? It could just be that Xp won't let you define that as a global program and won't let you use Winamp3 until your login for your sister and install it. Also it could be that your files are set to only be accesed only by your administator account. Which you need to make sure they are available to your sister. Sorry that I can't help you any further than that because I haven't used XP, the closest I've gotten to it is using Windows2000.

Log off...and winamp will close(just as if windows is closing)

don't switch users because then winamp will not close

im using Windows XP and their are 0 conflicts...but a few minor OS bugs(that have nothing to do with user switching)

Why are you all talking about the user switching feature? Not once did I see jeroen65 make mention of it. Stop jumping to conclusions.

And the answer is quite obvious, his sister is using a GUEST ACCOUNT. Guests can't do shit, since they're like a stripped down version of a User (Limited) account. Guest accounts have the least amount of control among the many different account types on NT operating systems.

Here's the solution...

Log in as an administrator, make a seperate account for your sister, and make her a User (Limited Account.) Now turn off Simple File Sharing (in the Folder Options.)

Go to the Program Files directory, right-click on the Winamp3 Folder, then click Properties. Under the Security tab, add your sister's account to the list of groups and users. Select her account in that list, click every checkmark (including Full Control,) then hit OK.

Log into your sister's account and open up Winamp3. See if that works.

Guests can't install programs. I mean Jesus, they've got less access privelages than standard Users, what did you expect?

obviously your not running windows XP....

the log 0ff feature closes every program(including winamp) just as if the computer is shutting down

network connections close and windows saves any registry changes to file. Windows just shows the login screen as it would when you turn your computer on.

he did use the switch users function so don't bitch about it

switch users function doesn't close any programs...it just kinda hides the windows from the screen.(thats why you can still hear winamp running in the background)
Then brings up the login menu so another user can log in.
like having 2 instances of windows

in win xp just as win2 you can assign a program to be "run as". guest account in any nt system is bad. disable the guest account and be a real guy and make your sister a real user. if it still won't work then run winap as the administrator.

And what makes you say that? Not that it really matters or anything, but check the attachment on this message to see a screenshot of what my cluttered desktop looks like, there's more than enough visual proof of Windows XP's presence in there.

EDIT: Crap, forgot the attachment. See the post below this one to get the attachment.

No shit?

My point is that the user switching feature wasn't mentioned at all in the beginning, so the reasoning behind discussing it in the first place is beyond me... but whatever. jeroen65 started the thread by saying, "I am admin on this pc and my sister works in the geust account. I can listen to music whit winamp3 but my sister don't what is this problem," then george3 replies with, "There is no problem. When you use the switch user function in XP (snip)." I fail to see why the topic of the user switching feature was even brought up.

Huh? I thought it was only possible to OWN manors, not to learn them.

Oh, you mean "manners"... my bad.

Yeah, but that would require him to give his administrator password to his sister whenever the Run As dialog box pops up, which I assume he wouldn't want to do, seeing as she's been using the Guest account thus far.

And has anyone even bothered to read my suggestion yet? It works, and it's the most efficient way to do things, since you don't have to grant administrator privelages to everyone so they can run certain programs (which would obviously be a bad thing in most cases.) Come on, a few clicks of the mouse and you're there. Not to sound like an AOL advertizement or anything, but it's just that simple.

Gah... trust me to forget the attachment mentioned in my previous post. Stupid, stupid me... I'm always doing that...

Normally I'm the last person you'd expect to see double posting, but since it's impossible to edit a new attachment into a post that doesn't originally contain one, I have no other choice. Any admins reading this can feel free to decrease my postcount by one, if it makes you feel any better.

Here it is...
