CDDB sucks on mix cds

I don't like how on my personal mix cds cddb always asks me to input the song names. What is really bad is if I ignore it winamp stops playing! I don't want to have to type in all the songs or x out of the cddb menu every time. I know you can turn it off in the input preferences, but why not make a more accessible way to supend the service temporary (just for 1 cd say). Or at least make it so it doesn't stop playing after 1 song.
Thanks

CDDB interface

I get the distinct impression that the CDDB interface is annoying because Gracenote PAID Nullsoft to provide endless annoying interruptions.

It would be *really* swank if WinAmp would support alternate databases such as FreeDB, but if Nullsoft is on Gracenote's payola, it Ain't Gonna Happen.

Rats.

I don't know if this is true, but Gracenote might also be like the international standard so its hard to argue with that.

In the section "Winamp Input Plugins", you'll find out how to configure Winamp for FreeDB

Thanks!

According to the FreeDB website:
Quote:
As Escient has changed the terms of licence for accessing CDDB, some programmers complained that the new licence includes certain terms that threatens them in a way they cannot accept: If you want to access CDDB, you are not allowed to access any other CDDB-like database (this one, for example) and - while accessing the database - the programmer has to ensure, that a CDDB-logo is displayed (Funny sidenote: One programmer told me, that his cd-player will be banned if he is refusing to display the CDDB-logo. His software is a console-based program (it does not produce any graphical output) for blind people...).
Update (March 2001): Gracenote (which is the new name of CDDB) has now banned all unlicensed applications from accessing their database. New licenses for CDDB1 are not available anymore, as they obviously want to force programmers to switch to CDDB2.

So to reply to Colldawg21's post, no, CDDB2 is obviously *not* a standard, but instead is *very* proprietary. And no, ordinary peons such as us cannot preview the CDDB2 license agreements -- one has to be a registered developer to do that.

I'm surprised that WinAmp can be tweaked to use FreeDB -- it sounds if Gracenote/Escient gets word of this, they'll nuke the CDDB2 license.

Why blame the service when it's the application that decides how to use the service?

Winamp has had the problem of throwing up the CDDB conection for every track whenever the CD doesn't match long before they went to CDDB2. It's a bug in Winamp!. No other player does it, and Nullsoft just won't fix it.

If you think Gracenote paid/forced Winamp to do it, then you're basically calling Nullsoft sellouts. IMO if they really did sell out, they'd have a way better CDDB2 interface than the extrodinarily lame one they have now.

BTW: I've used the Gracenote CDDB2 SDK plenty, and there is nothing in it that makes this problem Gracenote's doing.

Use CDReader - it's configured to use FreeDB by default
