Gave credit where credit was due.
I took an existing skin, talked to the originators of what I was going to use, and remade it. In the read-me, I gave credit to the originators. What is the problem with that?

There's no problem, as long as you have permission to do so, and say so in the Description and Readme.

I have republished your skin. In the future, if you (or anybody for that matter) publish a skin that is technically a "RIP" of another skin, but permissions have been sought AND given, put the credits for the other authors in both the skin description and the readme file. In determining RIPs, the readme file is not always consulted by the reviewer, especially with the better known skins.
