Ctrl+Alt+N to spawn a 2nd instance of Winamp.

Or: Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Options
Checkmark "enable multiple instances"
You can now open a 2nd instance of Winamp via your desktop shortcut.

If you have any further problems getting the crossfader/mixer to work,
post full details here.

Go to Preferences (Ctrl+P or right click on Winamp>Options) Go to Output Select Nullsoft DirectSound, close it. And settings should take place on the next song. Then you can mix songs using two instances of Winamp. The DirectSound plug-in allows other DirectSound outputs to be played while you're using Winamp. This also makes two Winamps play without problems. Make sure you have the latest DirectX installed to make this work properly.

Depends. Using Winamp with DirectSound, it can mix two sounds into one output. Thats only if the other sound is being put out using DirectSound. If its a WaveOut output, then no, both won't mix. That was what you were having problems when mixing both Winamp instances together before I helped you change to DirectSound.

Basically, it all depends on your soundcard and Windows OS.

Older soundcards don't support the playback of multiple audio streams,
neither does Win9x with older soundcards, though WinME/2k/XP WDM drivers can handle multiple audio streams even with some older soundcards.

All newer soundcards support multiple audio streams under all Windows OS's.

DirectSound Output is a workaround for this problem, but it won't guarantee that you'll be able to play sounds from other programs at the same time. It all depends on whether your soundcard supports it or not.
