This is a copy of the message I just posted in the NSIS Discussion Forum. I know not everybody goes to that forum so I thought I would post a copy of the message here as well to try to get some more feedback. I hope you don't mind the "cross-post" -- and thanks for any feedback you can offer. I originally wanted opinions on my use of the installer but opinions on the product in general would be appreciated as well. Thanks - here it is the message:

Hello everyone,

I am about to release a product -- Pankaj Arora Software's Tumi Cursor PowerPack -- that uses NullSoft's NSIS Installer. I credited NullSoft near the bottom of the license agreement portion of the installation as they deserve much credit for this fine system they have developed. My product also features the voice of JJ McKay, the same guy who does the "Winamp - it really whips the lama's ass" that we're all so fond of hearing upon a fresh installation of Winamp.

Anyway - I just wanted to get your opinions on my use of the install system, as this is the first time I have used it. Also, I wanted to give you NSIS developers a sneak-peak of the product -- it is the final version and is currently being distributed to the major download sites. Please - good or bad - tell me what you think.

Heh - eh, I'm sorry if I'm coming across that way - but that is not my intention. I *legitimately* and *sincerely* want some feedback, I wasn't sure where to turn so I figured the NSIS Forum would be a good idea, then I thought I might as well post something to the general discussion.

The product is entirely free and you can feel free to delete it and not tell anyone about it after your done. You can even feel free to not install it and provide any feedback. I will respect your decision either way.

I honestly am not trying to inflate downloads (I'm not even counting them) - I want some feedback from people so I can make some possible last-minute changes. I'm not really sure about the overall culture of these boards but I didn't think it would be a problem; I didn't even provide a link to my commercial company - I just want some feedback on this free product.

I figure once it is all submitted to the major download sites it will get all the "promotion" it needs through keyword searches. People who are looking for a product like this should be able to find it - and if it happens to gets popular as these sets did in the past it will due to its own merits, not marketing. I don't mean to shove this down anyone's throat and I'm sorry if I came off that way.

Besides, if I was trying to promote something on these forums wouldn't it make more sense to write something like this:

"HEY! GO TO WWW.MODEMKILLER.COM RIGHT NOW!"

Hehe :-)
