WinAmp, MP3's and the WorkPlace

not sure how many have this problem, but here at work there is a very strict rule on having MP3's which is No MP3's. They view that all MP3's were probably gained illegaly. I own many CD's which I ripped to MP3's. To get around this I renamed them to NP3. Now I can get Winamp to play them, but only if I double click them, is there any way to add this to the file type list so that it will auto reconize them from the directory? I am running Win 2K and WinAmp v2.78. I do have Admin rights as well and I tired to edit the ini file but it kept reverting to the original version when I restarted winamp.

Preferences (Ctrl-P) > Plug-ins > Input > Double click on "Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder..." > General Tab > "File association"

Is where you want to add NP3
