winamp just randomly quits

Sometimes when i'm listening to songs on winamp, they will just randomly stop in the middle. The only way i can get winamp to start playing any song again is to restart my computer. It's getting really annoying!!

I've had this problem too... It has something to do with the DirectSound driver (don't ask). I've found that if u start Windows Media Player or some other mp3 or wav playing program that it "resets" the problem and gets winamp to work. It might not work on everyones system tho... some of my friends tried this and it failed.

How to permanately fix this I dont know. Just keep updating Winamp as new versions come out, and hopefully the problem will be fixed.

Best of Luck!

Can't help much without any sys specs:
CPU; RAM; Windows OS; Soundcard; Videocard; motherboard; DirectX; etc

Try updating your soundcard drivers and DirectX

Most of your sys specs can be found via System Control Panel
(rt click "My Computer" on the desktop -> properties)
CPU/RAM c/o General tab
Soundcard/Videocard via Device Manager tab
etc etc.

DirectX details c/o start -> run -> dxdiag

Also try this official update patch: Winamp 2 Update
(Updates both out_wave & out_ds plugins to peter's (PP) new versions,
also updates in_midi.dll, in_mod.dll & in_wave.dll to new pre v2.80 versions)
Further details: (READ THIS FIRST)
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=68811

After installing the update patch, open Winamp & goto:
Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Plugins -> Output
Select one of: WaveOut; Crossfading DirectSound; or Experimental DirectSound
(try them all one by one, maybe one of them will fix the problem. Also note that the changes will only take effect when the next song starts playing.)

You can also try tweaking the settings within the Output Plugin config.
Try changing the Output Device to your soundcard driver.

More tips/settings explained here (Peter's new DirectSound Outputs only)

ps.
btw, I've had to move this thread out of the General Tech forum because we're closing down that particular forum. Hope ya don't mind!?
