2.77 to 2.78 problems

Here’s something interesting. I’ve posted it at other forums, but I decided to post it here and see what feedback I get. When WinAmp 2.78 came out I downloaded it right away. I was using 2.77 until then. Well, after uninstalling 2.77 and installing 2.78 I noticed a lot of skipping when surfing the internet, and going to different websites. I emailed WinAmp, told them about my computer (Win98SE,…) and they told me to alter some settings, but it sounded like I had low system resources. Well, that didn’t work. I was kind of baffled because I never had that problem with 2.77. I could surf the net, open multiple programs, and do lots of other things without ever having a problem with it.

Well, I went to some forums and I got answers from it’s probably your sound card to it’s most likely your video card. Well, I wasn’t about to go and pay $$ for what I thought was a software issue. So, I uninstalled 2.78 and reinstalled 2.77 and I was back to my shining glory until yesterday. Yesterday I downloaded Netscape 6.2.2 and it came with WinAmp. Well somehow it screwed up my 2.77 while installing the version that came with Netscape 6.2.2. I don’t know how, it just did. So I said to myself I’m going to give 2.78 one more chance. So I uninstalled WinAmp again and rebooted my machine. I downloaded 2.78 again and after about 2 minutes of using it I removed it again due to the EXACT same issues as before, and have now gone back to 2.77. I’m not sure what the developers did or added from 2.77 to 2.78, but they did something. Of course again they will most likely blame it on my system resources, or maybe even my sound card.

Well, I’m going to use 2.77 from now on, but I’ll be willing to try version 3 when the final version is released, but honestly I don’t have much faith. It seems as they release newer versions that these newer versions come with added features, but there’s a price to pay. Anyone else had any experiences like this, or had problems upgrading from 2.77 to 2.78? Thanks everyone.

I honestly have had no problems with 2.78 or 2.79 of Winamp.

Have you tried using 2.77's plugins with 2.78 and vice-versa.

Have you also tried installing peter's Winamp 2.x plugin update patch?
(It's been updated today anyway, so even if you have already downloaded it, it's probably best to get today's version).

Sorry I can't be of any more help than that - try these things and let us know which combinations of software+plugins do work

Actually

I installed 2.79 today and altered the Input Plug-ins and have no problem with this update so far. I can surf the internet and open multiple programs with no problem whatsoever.
