Double listing of songs

I have been using Winamp for a very long time but I just got a new computer for my girlfriend. When she loads the playlist, it doubles up almost every song. I can't figure out why it does this on some and not others. Yes, I cleared the playlist before I loaded the directory. There are 322 songs in the directory but when I load the directory into the playlist, Winamp says I have 622 songs, many of the songs show a duplicate in the list when I sort it. The songs in the list are .mp3 and .wma . Is there an option in Winamp that does this or did I find a bug? The version of Winamp is v2.78c and it was a clean install on the new computer.

Thanks for any help.

Michael

it doesn't sound like a bug - it simply sounds like you have stored a playlist file in your mpe folder, or one of it's subdirectories. This would account for the doubling up of nearly all the files.

Search your mp3 folder for a .pls or .m3u file, and if its there, delete it.

If it's not that, then more than likely it's because you've got two different input plugins installed which both deal with the same filetypes (.mp3 in this case), eg. the default in_mp3.dll and the st00pid 3rd-party in_mp3pro.dll

As for the playlist files, there isn't a playlist file as this is a brand new install. I cleared the playlist and just reloaded the directory ONLY.

Similar complaint

When I load my files my playlist also doubles some of my songs. It only does it for one folder(of about ten). In the file info it lists one song as the proper "D:\MP3\Aternative\Creed - Torn.mp3" and the other as "D:\MP3\ATERNA~1\Creed - Torn.mp3" both songs work in winamp but when i try to search for the second song on my comp. it tells me that the directory does not exsist - wtf?

If it's not one of the two possible reasons already outlined above, then the only other thing I can think of is that there's a shortcut in one of the folders you're adding which leads to the D:\MP3\Alternative folder.
Search your drives for all files called: *.LNK

Double listing

I also am having this problem with all of my songs coming up twice. I have both winamp 2.79 and winamp 3 and have erased and re-installed both of them but it still does it. I have also tried clearing it and adding the directory again, and I do not have any saved play lists. Any other ideas on how to fix this?

Also the comment on the 2 input deals, how do you fix that?

figured it out

Turns out I just had a shortcut to the whole folder in the folder that I was unaware of. Too many mp3 files to notice i guess.
