Problem with CD player
I use winamp to play my cds. The CDDB2 thing seems to be useful, since I have already added CDs to the database using winamp. I have a huge complaint though. I don't know if it a "bug", but it is annoying and completely reproducible. When listening to my live cds that have no spaces in between tracks, winamp cd player cuts off the end of every track for a split second. The Windows CD player does not do this. Actually, I was looking at my cd-rom, and in between tracks on Winamp, the light goes off for a split second. So I guess the laser turns off for a moment before going to the next track. Why does this happen. Is there any way to fix this? Or will this problem be resolved in future versions?

Just a quick Question-what is a split second
1,2,3,4 etc. If it is less then3-4 seconds I'd say you have nothing to worry about. If you play it on a regular CD player you should find that for about 1-2 seconds there is space between songs. This is were the track, when it was burned, stops and the CD Player will recognize a new song. If it didn't do this every CD would be 1 song that what 10-20 songs in one. Hope this helps |

What version are you running. If it is v2.79 you might have to wait for a fix, or even the next version. Try the live CD's you have to see if it does it to them

ok. i forgot to give some pertinant information. First. I am using version 2.79. The problem has persisted for all the versions i have used, which go back pretty far. Second, the live CD is a concert that as I said in Windows CD player and in normal physical CD players such as my Sony 5-disc changer flows track to track. It is just with Winamp that the end of each track is cut off or silenced for what I would say is 0.5 seconds. However, during a live CD when a band ends with a big bang and then starts a new song, it sucks if the end of that song gets cut off.

Dont know if it'll help but go to your options menu and click on Prefences. Go to Input and Output and just go through them. It takes some time but you'll find little checks that say end for 5 sec, fade out, continue, etc

Thanks for all the help. I know about the CD - reader plugin. It's just that I actually think the Winamp CD plugin is better for playing cds. It has solid CDDB2 support. The music sounds good. It's just the transitions between songs that are really weak. I am not expecting Winamp to do anything about this because it is enough of a privilage to have the best mp3 player in the world for free. The winamp people don't have to make all these updates for us. But since they do, I am surprised that they haven't addressed this issue when it seems to be quite prevalent.

There'll always be a gap between tracks with the default analog plugin.
It totally by-passes Winamp's output system, therefore it doesn't make any difference if you change any of the settings. The only solution for now is to use the digital CDReader plugin and a gapless output, preferably Peter's DirectSound Output from wa2update in gapless mode, though there are many other gapless outputs to choose from (crudsoft, dudsoft, SqrSoft ACF, etc). These will only work with CDReader, not in_cdda.dll. Sorry! ![]() It's been talked about on these forums since day one, and even has a place in the official Wish List, but the only way the default plugin will ever be able to address this issue is if it was recoded with Raw Read functionality (Digital Audio Extraction capability). The other benefits of CDReader are: 1) a working volume control and EQ 2) working DSP/FX and Vis plugins 3) no need to sample input from soundcard for the built-in vis (spectrum) 4) Uses freedb.org cddb (which is as equally extensive as Gracenote CDDB2) The only disadvantage I can think of is that there's no option in either plugin to import/export the local cddb. in_cdda.dll uses in_cdda.cdb CDReader uses cdplayer.ini (n the Windows dir, same db as Win CD Player) But it doesn't take long to download the data again. Just make sure "use local cddb" is also checkmarked in CDReader config. But you're right... Winamp2 is an all-round media player, and it's most important feature will always be MP3 playback. The fact that you can also play AudioCD's is just an extra added bonus. WA3 addresses the issue, but I doubt if it will ever be implemented in WA2. |
