Hardware insallation problem...CD Burner
I recently got a parallel port CD burner from my landlord. It's ancient and slow, but it's better than no burner at all. When I was running Windows98se it worked fine, but I recently did a clean install of WindowsME and ME won't detect the hardware at all. I've checked the power and the parallel port connection and everything is fine there. I'm not really sure what to do next.

Have you checked the website for the manufacturer for the latest drivers?
I had bad problems with ME. It refused to detect even my mouse, so I get rid of it and put a better OS. I would try the driver thing first though. |

I forsee problems. ME for some reason has trouble with a lot of peripheral devices, especially older ones such as your burner. As Bilbo said, go to the manufacturers homepage and see if you can get drivers from there. Failing that, an upgrade to W2K might be a good idea, if you can get your hands on a copy.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Whaddya know, HP's site actually had a page dealing specifically with ME compatibility with their older burners. I downloaded the drivers and voila: my burner works. Who knew there was support for stone-age tech (thread: My chariot won't work w/o a horse...Please help).
