Looking for a new Motherboard

I'm trying to find a good Motherboard for my Athlon XP 1800+, Which one should I get?

The extras I'm looking for are

onboard LAN
onboard RAID
onboard 5.1 sound

right now the one that I think I'll get is the Soyo Dragon Plus, but there are other mobos out there Ive seen get higher reviews and such, what is your opinion?

Looks like the Gigabyte 7VRXP+ is in the lead, take a look at this interesting article I found on their website:

http://www.giga-byte.com/home/raid_ata133.htm

the only thing keeping me from buying this right now is this motherboard comes with onboard Creative CT5880 audio, I don't know if it's a 5.1 sound card, does anybody know?

A7V if you want to overclock. They make it easy.
just make sure you don't have one of the new permanently locked CPUs.

I have a motherboard from 1999. If I bought a new one and attached my same hardware (Geforce2 MX 400 64MB, 32bitsoundcard, 8.8GBHD, 400Mhz processor) what difference would I notice? Would it improve anything???

I know, my spec is a load of shit!

If you upgrade the MoBo nowadays, it usually means a new CPU as well, the socket will probably not be compatible with your old one. Neither would your old memory be fast enough for the newer bus.

Bizznatch, if you are serious enough to want 5.1 you are better off with a separate sound card.

not really, this is only my 2nd upgrade in 2 years, I always try to upgrade at least once a year now

My Soyo K7ADA motherboard lasted me a good 14 months now, time to move on to something faster I already sold the board and CPU on ebay for $155, about $40 less than what I paid for the 2 last year.

The Soyo looks good, but has too many errors I don't want to deal with. Read about them on any motherboard discussion forum.

I'm going to wait. First a car, than a new video card, then a new sound card, then a new case, and THEN the motherboard.

Honestly. The motherboard is always the least productive upgrade. Oh well. It's tired, and I'm late. Good night.

May I make a reccommendation for your video card?

Get the Gainward GeForce3 ti450 Powerpack @ 128MB DDR and 4ns, I have mine OC'ed to 225/520 and the performance is WAY better than a GeForce3 ti500! And they only cost about $150.

Very Cool.

That's kinda why Im gonna wait a while for like a 3Ghz or better with a respectable HDD and other peripherals to get better. I will buy the best I can find cos at least then my PC won't stuggle with small things such as Adobe Photoshop 6 which takes ages to load!

After all, my PC works ok as it is now. Just a little bit slow but at least ive got one thing to be thankful for - my PC doesn't take 20 minutes to load like the early computers did!

After a 30 second search on PriceWatch, i've come up with a 64mb model. Can you post a link to the 128?

PS: The 64 was $137.
