Remote controlling WinAmp with irDA

Hello. I just bought an IR-module for my Asus CUV4x Motherboard.
I was going to use it to remote control WinAmp...

I thought, well there are so many programs and plug-ins out there for remote controlling winamp, so this has to work.
The problem is, the irDA function blocks COM2, which all of these programs seem to use. I have found NOTHING that uses the irDA interface to send commands to the PC from a remote control. Can it be done?
