Only 'Microphone' or 'Mixed Output' can be selected.

Hello,

The problem:

When I broadcast music and talk one will work, so, either play MP3s or use the Microphone but can't get it to do both.

The 'select' boxes in 'Recording Control' only allows one control to be selected at a time. Either I playing music and can't be heard, or be heard with no music play. Anyone know how is it possible for both to work?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

AMD Athlon 850Mhz
192.0MB RAM

Software:

Windows 98 Second Edition
SHOUTcast Source for Wimamp v1.8.0
SHOUTcast Server v1.8.0/win32 (Jan 2 2001)
Winamp v2.73

I had the same problem/question, and after doing a little more reading I think I may have found the answer. Here is my reference:

As I'm unfamiliar with your soundcard, do you know if it is a true Full Duplex card? If so, you may need to update it's drivers. In your mixer settings, you should see a slider labelled "What you hear" or "Sum" or something similar to that. That is a slider that controls all levels you are hearing through your speakers. If you do not see that slider, then either you do not have a Full Duplex card, or you need to update it's drivers.

Please, if I'm in error on this one let me know. I am currently in the same situation and trying to update my drivers as I see others with my same card are able to do this. I will update you to what I find out.

Krullen - turns out my theory was correct - a fresh set of drivers solved the problem. I looked up your card, and although it is a Full Duplex card, I cannot answer the question of whether or not any new drivers will help. My guess would be that they will, and it's not a bad idea to have the latest drivers anyway. You can find them for your card at:

A new driver would probably do it but there are no such drivers for me. Checked it out and the driver for PCI128 model CT5880 isn't supported by Creative. This card is for onboard a Gigabyte motherboard, which I have. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw doesn't offer support for my model of PCI128 either.

What about a different model driver, could a different one work with mine?


I had a humming problem with my speakers too. It was my Mixer Mic setting, the slider was set all the way down, I just check on the Mute and the hum disappeared. If that doesn't work check the cord on the back speaker, it could be loose, was a problem for me once.

It might be time to think about upgrading your soundcard then, unfortunatley. THey are relatively cheap now, I have the Creative SB Live Value card and it can be gotten for less than $50 now.

I know what the hum is, it's an electrical ground loop. Just gotta powerdown and do some rewiring. :/

Check to make sure that you have all your recording sliders turned on.

Just go to the recording mixer and under Options, choose Properties, and then the list box below should have all items checked for both playback and recording

disable any items that are useless for this discussion, the mixer can only support so many sliders at one time.


Just thought I would throw that out there before you buy a whole new card.

I can broadcast music. But i cannot broadcast voice. Or Vise versa. The selcetions will only allow one or another. Not both.

System specs.
Gigabyte Motherboard
AMD 1 Ghz Athlon
512 MB PC133 SDRAM
Sound Blaster Live Platinum +5.1

I have updated the Bios, I have also updated the sound cards drivers.

If some else has this SOund Blaster card please take a sreen shot of your Mixer settings and post them so we can have some idea what to go by.

You want to choose Mixed Output, and then choose the devices you want SHOUTcast to Record from the Playback Controls.

It will then broadcast everything you hear to your listeners

You have to understand that most soundcards cannot handle recording from multiple devices at the same time.

So what you have to do is choose the Mixed Recording option

This basically is a channel specifically allowing your soundcard to record from itself.

Now you go back to Playback Controls:
Options -> Properties -> Playback -> Click OK

From this mixer you can unmute the things you want to broadcast.

Everything you hear through your computer's speakers will be broadcasted.

I think I understand now. Record Control: Mixed Output is the outputs in Playback, also for the speakers.

Ok I did a bunch of screwing around but I did find soemthing that worked. Mind you I have a Sound Blaster Live Platinum +5.1. Since I am not sure if the other cards listed have the same options I will just let you know what works for my card.

1. Go to the Start button Then to Programs> Souncblaster Live. Select the Surrond Mixer. When this opens up look at the top area where it says TASK Click the down arrow and select "Play MP3/Internet Audio".

Now you will be able to broadcast music and broadcast voice as well. It works for me.

I don't see a "Mixed Output" Option in my mixer settings. What's wrong?

You don't see "Mixed Output". Try this:

1) double click the volume icon in the system tray,
2) Go to Options,
3) Properties,
4) Adjust volume for: Recording,
5) Show the following volume controls: (scroll down and make sure there is a check beside Mixed Output),
6) OK it.
It should be in you Recording Control panel now.

If you don't receive the option to open 'Recording Control' within the Volume Control panel. Go to 'Start', Run..., type this ---> SNDVOL32 then follow steps 2) and on. That sould open up Windows Volume control. Some soundcard have their own Volume Control program which maybe confusing you.

I did as you said, but I still didn't see the option there. There was a new option though, one which I had not seen earlier. "What U Hear" Is that the same thing?

"What U hear" aka "Mixed Output". It will let you record all mixed output sources, which you currently can hear. It only allows one analogue input to be enabled at any one time, and can be mixed with a digital sources.

I’m guessing you have a Creative Labs SoundBlaster. What U hear is also known as post office-mix, loop bake, stereo output, stereo Out, stereo mix, Sum, and mixed output.

This is a limitation of the driver for your soundcard. Most likely, that limitation is imposed by your card's mixing hardware. Many cheaper sound cards can only record one source at a time.

I have no mixed output, what u hear, or any variation. I have search through sndvol32 and creative's sound mixer. Neither of them report that I have it... This makes me angry.

That's know. SB Lives are a port choice for Shoutcasting. (A poor choice period IMHO).

I finally found a solution to my problem. I am using windows 2000. I went into the hardware profile for my sound card and, instead of the newest drivers from creative, I used microsoft's included driver and stumbled upon the What U Hear option. I am not shoutcasting away.

I have a Creative Ensoniq and Win2k and i dont even see a mixed output or what you hear. Also i was wondering what program allows you to play one song on top of the other (that works with Shoutcast)
