oh my god,
i hate this sentence .... but i think it's the best, that the guys at nullsoft work as long as they need, so that we can enjoy a program that starts almost bugfree... :midas: |

I'm telling you
I still think there needs to be a script that searches for "release date", then automatically responds with the standard answer and lock the thread.

no, I don't think there's enough threads like this one to really justify making a script like that. Could be wrong tho

there's got to be one atleast once a week. It find out and responds it the link to the FAQ page. Because it really does get agravating.

Once again another pointless thread.
Read the FAQ before posting questions like this. Emm, script thing sounds interesting. |

And what if someone posts the following:
Hi, I've been working on a component for Winamp3. This component will fix all known bugs for Winamp3 AND it makes great toasted marshmellows. It's release date will be Fri. May 4th, 2002.....blahblahblah Hmmm? If you're frustrated by posts from noobs, don't bother reading any posts by any user whose name you don't recognize. And if you're worried that doing that might cause you to miss some important post, well, you can't have it every which way you like. -=Gonzotek=- p.s. The given example is obviously not serious in content. Please don't jump up and down over it. But I'm feeling much better now. |

Actually, my post was meant to be somewhat funny (if not also an off-hand suggestion). Frankly, I have better things to worry about in life than how many times someone asks when the next beta will be released.
And actually if you really wanted to set up such a script, you could search for "release date" and "beta 4" in the same sentence and that would be far less likely to pick up false positives. Quote:

yeah, but it wouldn't have picked out this thread (since the first post never mentions beta 4)
but yeah, there are better things to worry about in life than thread like these. Altho I didn't know they happened once a week, I thought they were a lot rarer than that. |

Considering two of the top three posts in the Winamp3 Discussion forum currently relate to release dates, I think the problem is growing...

heh..
I personaly don't see it as much of a problem. Like everyone already said, there are more importaint things to worry about in life then if someone is asking for a release date. Also, the only reason that the top three posts realate to release dates is that everyone insists on replying to them. If they bother you all so much you should just ignore them, rather than replying with the same old lines of "read the FAQ", "when its done", and "another pointless thread". Those really don't help with anything realating to the forums or Winamp(3). Sorry that you had to hear me bitching, I'm just getting sick of hearing everybody else.

if you stop newbies asking stupid questions who are you gonna yell at daily?
trust me.. no stupid comments makes for a very infomational (aka functional, ontopic, boring) forum.. |
