winamp3 desktop fuck up

hello everyone, just downloaded WA3 beta 3 days ago and have been busy restoring my computer to it's original state ever since. Ow OK that's a bit of an overstatement. But anyways.
Just about any time I started it up WA3 it crashed completely (memory dumping rebooting blablaa and nothing my amazed ass could do aboout it)Wtf has nullsoft released upon the world this time?????????
Owkee back to the good ole 2.78 and wait till the thing is debugged and availabla on winamp.com
Unistalling..........installing 2.78...........comp crashes again every time I start up a song. My otherwise problemfree running system had turned into a highly unstable machine (brought back memories of win95)
After some cleaning up and optimizing (hail ashampoo winoptimizer) my system began running as it used to do before my WA3 adventure. Altough my desktop icons are still only displayed in 256 colours. o wait that problem seems to be solving itself???????!!!!!!!!!! STRANGE

My advise to nullsoft; please warn people who don't know that much about computers (yesssss ladies 'n gentleman that includes me...)about the risks off downing a BETA version off a program.

catch ya'll latrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

What opperating system are you using and in what strange ass config. No one else has had this problem that I know of and I can't see why you would, unless you installed it in the windows directory or something.

It is even stranger that you had to reboot when Winamp 3 crashed, I don't have to do this on my buggy win98SE machine. It is glad to hear that you are getting your computer running again.

I have yet to hear anybody complain about any problems like that. Maybe due to your limited knowledge you scewed your computer up. Also Risks are common place in life.

did you read anything on the download page????

Welcome to the Developers Beta preview of Winamp3, the next generation media player from Nullsoft.
Here's what you should expect when downloading this beta:
  • Winamp3 is a beta which may contain bugs, we recommend that you install Winamp3 in it's own folder rather than overwrite the Winamp 2.x installation that you currently have. If you have a previous version of Winamp 3 you should uninstall and do a fresh install of Beta 3.
  • The software has several, major known issues, which prevent certain features from being fully accessible by users. Functionality will increase as we start moving towards the final product
    Who should download this beta:
    Skin developers
    Plug-in developers
    Software developers
  • We recommend you install this for evaluation purposes, in order to have an understanding of what the future holds. This beta will not be perfect, but it will give you an idea of where we're going with the final release.
With that said, we hope you enjoy using Winamp3 Beta 3!

This is beta software. Play with it as much as you like, but
don't blame us if it melts your computer into a pile of scrap metal or steals your girlfriend. Check out the readme.txt for some features to try out.

Sincerely,
Brennan "The" Underwood
Francis "The" Gastellu
Christophe "The" Thibault
Mig "The" Gerard
Steve "The" Gedikian
btw any system components that have been screwed up must have been because of you...
The winamp installation doesn't install any new system commands/files/etc

Yah dude, what are you talking about it's all in the name WA3 BETA3, not to mention all of the differnet places that Nullsoft posted warnings about the using a beta.
For instance,
[text from license screen of the B 3 Days]
WINAMP3 BETA 3 DAYS
This is beta software. Play with it as much as you like, but
don't blame us if it melts your computer into a pile of scrap metal or steals
your girlfriend. (We've received reports of this happening) Check out the readme.txt for some features to try out.

Do you read these screens?

and all of the other places my friend had mentioned above.

so WTF to you for not reading.

yeah man like it has been said do not expect too much. wa3 is still bugged as all hell, lacks a lot of key features, and eats memory like a bastard. it looks nice and its cool to get a peak at all of the new stuff that will be available soon, but by no means replace it as your primary mp3 player, especially if you demand a lot from a mp3 player like me and are using an assload of features as well as expecting it to perform at all times, even with the cpu under high load in gaming, programming , and whatever. wa3 will be ready when its ready

I highly doubt that Winamp 3 was the cause of all of your problems. When Winamp crashes for me, it does not crash my whole computer. I would suggest to you trying to download it again, but I don't know how much you know about computers, so I don't want to make you go back to where you started. But if you install Winamp 3 in it's own folder somewhere on your hard drive, and not in your windows directory, you shouldn't have too many problems.

ashampoo, everybody who needs that program for anything else than
cleaning up the registery (which probably was the function that solved
the problems) are realy realy technically imparred. and the clean up
function you can find other programs doing much better

And jup, he probably installed both wa2 and wa3 in a
c:\program files\winamp\ folder
