Skipping solved
After using Winamp for 4 years I had to format & partition my PC. I loaded everything back on from the original disks (printer, sound card, etc.) Then I downloaded Winamp. 2.79 I had skipping with MP3 files - not with any other format. I uninstalled it, tried 2.78, uninstalled that, ended up going right back to 2.64 (the one I think I had before, which had been working OK. No joy. So I gave up. I downloaded from ZDNET.com, an MP3 player called Power MP3 studio. Although it's not as good as winamp, it worked OK. Then I retried Winamp, and hey - it works OK.now. There is something in 2.79 that messes things up or deletes a file. I don't know. Whatever, installing the other MP3 player put the file back or overwrote the corrupted file. I don't know & I don't care. Winamp now works. If you are having problems with skipping, motorboating or stuttering, delete 2.79, try 2.73 or 2.64 then install another MP3 player. Then retry Winamp. Good luck!!!

I dont think that should be claimed as a secure procedure. Won't always work, maybe just in your case.
