Another under-rated, under-downloaded skin:

http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...ponentId=22979

It's not the best skin, but (judging by the ss) it definately deserves more than 3 stars (public rating is 4.5). Is it a bug from the old times? It was published in july 2001 and it only has 661 downloads, not fair.

Another one:

http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.jhtml?componentId=86298

It has been done before, but only 1.5 stars in originality? Many skinner.exe get more than that!

Many who live deserve death, some who die deserve life - can you give it to them?
Then be not so quick to deal out death in judgement.

<edit>Let me put that <rant> in a different spot, since I wasn't ranting about the self-promotions lol</edit>

Well, if most of us are doing shameless self-promoting...

<rant> (there we go)
I redid my Nightwish skin from back in December, and I think everybody agreed that it was MUCH, MUCH better. Except, my first skin got two stars (understandably, even though it wasn't a skinner.exe skin), and this new one only got 3 stars.

Old Nightwish skin

New Nightwish skin

Not to complain, (okay, yeah, I'm complaining), but if this skin had featured Britney or somebody that people had heard of, it probably would have gotten a much better review. I mean, I know it's not going to get many downloads because most people have never heard of Nightwish, but I still think the staff review is a bit bogus. I guess it's personal opinion... considering stuff like this:

http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...mponentId=8945
http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...mponentId=5733
http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...ponentId=13121
http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...ponentId=25154
http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...mponentId=3080
http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...mponentId=5371

</rant>

Let the flaming begin.

Two things:

1. I was not self-promoting. The skins I mentioned aren't mine, I just found them by chance.

2. I know Nightwish, I have their albums in my jukebox

Kudos to you for listening to Nightwish

Now it's the easiest for me: I have all their CDs
I first knew of them by accident, but they're one of my favorite bands. I'd recommend the albums "Guds spelemän" and "Vedergällningen" as the best. In audiogalaxy you can find all their songs (or almost all) some very good ones: 'Herr Holger', 'Herr Holkin', 'Hilla Lilla', 'Vedergällningen', 'Vänner och Fränder', 'Salvatoris', 'Herr Olof'...

I'll have to try audiogalaxy then... I just looked them up on DC and absolutely nothing came up. Maybe I should move to a Swedish hub lol.

Not so much underrated, but was buried quickly and doesn't have a lot of downloads:

http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...onentId=101008

There's a bug in the numbers, and I can see how it would not be to everyone's taste, but you have to admit a lot of work went into it.

And it sparkles when you play with it!

Actually, I was wondering what everyone here considers "too few downloads". I would consider too few downloads to be less than 1000, but maybe my standards are too low!

Sorry in advance to Nick Largent

The one that has always confused me (in the overrated category) is this skin:

http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...ponentId=83937

I can't really say it is overrated, because it only got 2 stars and the "Approved. Thank you for your submission" brush-off.

But every few days when I go to winamp.com, it is featured as the Hot Skin - what's up?

I've always like this skin. I don't know about the rating, but it certainly deserves more downloads.

swept under the rug

ok. for whatever reason this skin was just placed into roatation without ever making it to NEW SKINS... not sure why.

plus.. the staf review really slammed the skin.. it really is NOT as bad as they said it was.

i mean ONLY 82 downloads since it was posted?
please.. shit skinner skins get more than that the first day and it is painfully obvious that some time was put into this one.

peace.

Problem #1 - Too many skins that are similar to others.
Problem #2 - Not everything is always cut & dry (missing element)
Problem #3 - Bugs ARE a factor in rating
Problem #4 - Rips are factors
Problem #5 - Rips of Rips are factors
Problem #6 - Complexity | Uniqueness | Aesthetics are all factors
Problem #7 - People who rate are human.

Forgoe the above miriad problems and possibly you'll have a higher rated skin. Else, you may as well count your blessing that the skins in question are even in the db.
