why the hell did you buy a gf4 mx? those are the crappiest cards ever. they are equal to, if not worse than the gf2 mx. gf4mxs are not gaming cards ( not sure what you will be using it for ). i suggest you take it back and get a gf2/3 ti. or a gf4 ti if you have the money.

actually, they have been clocked faster than gf2. i bought it so i could watch lord of the rings dvd screener (theoretically, if i had it) on my tv thru the tv-out. i don't play many games, but i'm sure it is better than my onboard vga card

I have the same card running under xp... acutally I find it not to be that bad of a gaming card. Not as good as my friend's gf4ti obviously, but its alright for me. I had crashing problems at frist too, but I got the windows updates (hadn't done that at all yet), upgraded direct x, and grabbed the newest 2000/xp drivers from nvidia's site and now its stable as a rock. Hopeyou get it working!

Do you get a total system lockup, followed by a reboot? If so, does XP pop up an error message mentioning an infinite loop error?
Read this excellent article and have a look at this forum. Search on any other tech forum for "Infinite loop" - this is a very common problem (if that's what this is) that plagues many people The infinite loop error has no one cause, and no one solution, so no-one can give you a specific cure. My system (Compaq, 512Mb, Geforce3 Ti200) suffers from this problem terribly, but only when running 3D apps. I cannot play games for more than a few minutes without a complete lockup. The only thing I can do is reduce my memory to 128MB, this completely solves the problem, but games and XP run horribly with this amount of RAM. Also look at Device Manager to check for any IRQ conflicts, ie make sure your Sound card, graphics card, modem, etc aren't sharing the same IRQ. This could be a cause. There's no need to tell me when I'm right; I operate on that principle exclusively and with absolute certainty |

The infinite loop thing is a problem.. High time it was fixed.
That card is ok, (for games also). Better than any geforce 2 but not the geforce 3 ti's. |

The geforce4mx is much faster than a gf2ti, and in some cases faster than a gf3ti200. Granted, theyre not quite as good as a gf3ti500 and not up to par with a gf4ti but for performance for dollar theyre hard to beat. |

gf4mx's aren't that bad. nofx guy had one in his box for a few weeks while he waited for his ti4400 to come in... the picture quality was a lot better than previous nvidia cards, and the colors in quake3 just seemed really intense (maybe it was the custom maps we were lanning)

yeah i had an evga gf mx440 in my box and it was good..really nice actually.... with a MSI gf4 mx460 you can easily get over 8000+ 3dmarks on a XP1900+ chip...and if im right that is a higher mark than some gf 3 ti500 cards .. so dont go dissin the cards till you actually try them.... www.audioflo.ath.cx All music, All the Time |

If I had the money, I'd obtain the GeForce 4 Ti4600.
The heatsink on that beast is massively huge!

What's a good budget gaming card then? As in under £100 (~$150)
How do the ATI Radeons compare to the GF4's or would a KryoII do the job? "We think science is interesting and if you disagree, you can fuck off." |
