I would call this a "start"
definitely needs some work - unfortunately I'm not much of a teacher - maybe someone else around here can give you some ideas on how to improve it (thinking "3D" might help)

If anyone can find any of the skins I made please email them to Forevever@aol.com
I can't remember all the names but specifically hunting for Lascivious, and DEVOUR (compilation with Jax) and any in the Impulse series which had 6 total. Auriferous, Gilt, Impulse, Nadir, and 2 others I can't remember but you dig.

Heck, just for kicks, try using the fill gradient tool around some parts, that should give it some pseudo-3D looks.

Not bad at all for an MSPaint/First skin comination. You should further edit the numbers.bmp and plapaus.bmp.

I also highly reccomend you download a good paint program, like Paint Shop Pro. It's the key that unlocks the 'Make good skins' door...

i think you have fallen in the wrong hole. programs like psp and photoshop may help to realise your ideas, but look at cleanup (in particular) and all of the other ca-razy mspaint skinners, they bring out great skins on a regular basis and they don't use ps or psp. It isn't the tools, it's the talent.

I agree with binary hero, though having the right tools helps, and some things are a lot easier to realize in PS or PSP. On the other hand if you're comfortable with Paint, you might want to stick to it, switching to another program can be a pain, and with a little creativity paint goes a long way

I somewhat agree. However it comes down to what the user is more comfortable using. I strongly recomend trying psp or photoshop (or perhaps gimp if you want a free image editor), but if its more comfortable using mspaint, then thats fine.

Imagination is the key component to making good skins, but the proper tools makes it easier.

I really don't believe that. There are only something like 3-5 skinner that make truly great skins in MSPaint - compared to dozens of skinners that make great skins using PSP, PS, etc. I think that shows that it is the talent. Cazsius (sp?), Cleanup, et al are very talented to be able to make decent skins in MSpain.

Besides, saying that tools don't matter is like saying that talent in driving is what matters, and not cars. Schumaker is a terrific driver, so it he should win races whether he drives a Ferrari or a dune buggy. Yes he's the world's best driver, but that wouldn't mean shit if he wasn't driving one of the world's best cars. Even the most brilliant painter needs good materials. and as a tool, mspain is very limiting - I've just looked at my favourite skins: LiquidParadise, Scorpion Skin, Act2 Finale, and Abyss. All of those skins would be almost impossible to achecive using mspain. And if anyone did manage to make them using mspain, it would take them 10 times longer. (and the same goes for Atmo's and Mr Tough Guy's best skins, despite what they say )

Cleanup and Cazsius sometimes use gradients in their skins. Because they use mspain, they have to make those gradients by hand. Do you know how ridiculously and unnecessarily time-consuming that is? I know, because Saturn in the Wintertime was made essentially in mspain, and I did most of those gradients by hand...never again!!!

So, brado997, get yourself the demo versions of PSP or PS, or Gimp (which I think is freeware). Apparently, PSP is the easiest to learn of all those.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

You're right db, while I could probably have done most of my skins in paint, it's way easier to do them in PS, I was just saying if you suck at making skins it won't matter if you use paint, PS or PSP, and if you're good you can probably get a halfdecent skin out of any program.

just work with whatever program works for you, for some people that happens to be paint, me I'll stick to photoshop

like the smoke on Rose Tatoo, the green tint on the StarWars troopers in your new one, the fuzzy borders on A.I., or the superimposed images on Attack of the clones?

like I said most of em, rose tattoo and the trooper are both exceptions, the AI skin was actually just a cut and paste job, but don't tell anybody

if u want to become a better skinner you generally dont want to start off with a small proggy like mspaint. thats really just for beginners and a trial program u get with buying windows. you would want to invest in a good program like paint shop pro 7 or photoshop 6 or 7. even though u can use mspaint, u are LIMITED with what u can USE and DO, and with PSP or PS 6/7 u are virtually UNLIMITED in what can use, THEN do.

Agreed. And theres plenty of online tutorials for both photoshop and psp to make the learning process go a lot quicker.

It took me about a month (2 skins) to learn psp back to front...And once you've got the hang of it you wont look back.
