Linux version of WinAmp??

Anyone knows if a Linux version of Winamp is in the making?
That would be cool...
Saw that a Mac OS version is available, so why not for Linux which has much more users?

I'm pretty sure that Linux doesn't have more users than Mac, but no matter.

I really doubt that they are going to port Winamp to Linux now. It would be pretty much a waste of time, with Winamp 3 coming out soon. . .

There is a version of Winamp 3 for Linux, though. It's in alpha or beta.

Edit: Beat me to the punch. Oh, well. That link is for Winamp 3 alpha, by the way.

winamp-like linux player

if you can't wait for an actual port of winamp to linux, check out http://www.xmms.org for a quality player. they actually use the winamp interface, but the underlying architecture is completely different (and they've got OGG Vorbis support!).

Not so. I believe Linux has 2% of the market and Mac OS 5%.

It's an heresy. XMMS is an excellent mp3 player and it is on mandrake version, and on the net

Hmmmm.... Your obviously new to linux and taken aback by the cause. Winamp for Linux is in no way a heresy... Xmms is a great mp3 player.... but Winamp3 is better. And to further dispute your claims of heresy... perhaps you should take a look at the winamp sdk (software development kit) which is open source as well as the client itself being freeware. I fail to see how this is heresy. I've been using Linux myself for a couple of years now... but I keep track of windows software... because I want the best!! and winamp3 is the best mp3 player released to date.

On a side note.... has anyone had any luck w/ winamp3 alpha for linux?

Cheers,
Risca

yes... the funny thing is that it loads faster than any Windows version i used.

but it's still very buggy, and moving windows is quite slow. as of now for Linux, XMMS is better.

btw i'm on mdk 9 b2 now. it's far slower than anything i've used before. it's very upsetting that mdk developers could make something so much slower to boot than 8.2. it seems that you need a 3ghz now for recommended requirements.
