How do I become a skinner?

Hi I would like to become a skinner. I need help. I would like to know what progs to use to begin skinning. Also if you could direct me to a skinning "walkthrough" I would be much abliged (hope i spelled that right).

you cant just become a skinner overnight, you gotta learn some gfx, then make an awsome skin, then another one, and keep making them.. until people stop telling you your work sux and accually start giving compliments
