New Idea: Skinning Teams

Really it isn't that new, its just what I think will be a good practice to get into. The problem with the way we do it now, is that all the graphics people are trying to learn how to program the interface for WA3 and vise versa for the programmers. I think that we should start make teams to makes skins. 1 Person making wa2 skins was ok since there wasn't any programming involved but times changed. This isn't a new concept. Video Games and Computer Games or any kind use the idea of a team with a graphics artist and programmer. So it might be the future way to skin.

I myself am a programmer and I don't plan on making a WA3 skin on my own and I haven't because it would look like shit. It have some cool effects but it would look retarded. And no offense to some of the skinners out there but I have noticed either the really cool feature skins with everything skinned and cool animation but a shitty GUI and I have seen the cool looking GUI skins with only the main interface skinned and the PL, EQ, etc. left in the dark. Now I am not saying these guys suck at skinning but they need to come together.

Anyways thanks for listening to my unorganized thoughts and I hope others agree with me in some way and that people take my ideas and put them into action.

Note: I am welcome to learning the WA3 language and helping if someone wants me. Also the spelling and sentence structure might be bad but give me a break, I didn't use Spell Check and I have been out of school for almost 3 months and my job doesn't teach me grammar at all.

i like that idea. we are all helping each other out with the programming side of things, but it seems to be people making there own graphics. i think that having one person on graphics and one on programming would be really kool!

I think we should have a ICQ-activelist, we can help each other in here These forums are getting slow and talking to someone over icq is more directly and so
But we need a server and everyone needs to use icq
But in teams..... well i hope it's not forced and i guess you can contact one of the skinners to help you with the GUI and say that you want to put extra Drawers, lights, Candlebars, Cola, or a hamster on it

slow? I think the forums are lightning fast! especially compared to before the update!

anyways, the ICQ is a good idea, already got a few on you on my list... 3417818 if anyone wanna ask me something, altho I can probably only help you if it involves photoshop altho if you think others would benefit from the answer to your question you might aswell post it here in the forums...

great idea.

Hey all.

I'de love to get together with a programmer, I'm not _completely_ dumb when it comes to programming, but I just don't have the time to learn all the cool stuff about WA3.

So, I've started my skin, just need someone who would be willing to team up with me and listen to my rambling on about how I want this and this to happen.. and then like magic for it to happen

So if someone wants to contact me and help out my icq is 28701258 .

Go team noname!
and go the new forum options!

why 2 b personal groups?

u all can be 1 rockin group!!!

one of u will do the "blueprints"
a designer that uses: ps, psp, other... will make the .png thingies
a programmer like RT or someone else will do the animation
and.. thats it

e-mail the files between yourselves!

its chat language, shortcuts to words:

2 -> to
b -> be
u -> you
1 -> one
ps -> photoshop
psp -> paint shop pro

what i meant in this post was that.... instead of being "personal groups" like 3 ppl (people) a group, everybody should be "one skining group"

LoL that would rule.

i think the way we do it at the mo aint too bad. a skinner comes up with some graphics and then asks everyone else for scripting help. it is more or less like teams.

hmmmm, tick tick boom!

I've GOT a PSD file here... ok, out of the risk of losing my skin to someone I'm going to attach it here, if there's anyone out there that wants to program it to WA3, they're welcome, just tell ME when you do

I did start a WAL.. but is it really any help? I'de only really put the background in.. and even then, for my skin to work good I want the green screens to popup anyways, which to me, means that my background has to change... so.. I won't attach it.

Thankyou in advance.

Russ.

Sorry for not understand that last post Mountain. Anyways I understand the numbers and all of that but I have never seen ps and psp although I have used both and know what they are. It is as weird as saying pmltf (pink monkeys like to fly) don't assume that all the skinners out there know what they mean. No that I am done being the rude person back to normal mode.

<switching to normal mode>

OK well I like that idea but it would be hard to cordinate with every skinner there is. Beside even if we did when production starts I would bet that people would break of into 3s and 2s anyways since more than 3 or 2 gets hard to choose who does what.

Anyone else agree or understand what I am saying?

Hey Rus

The background for your skin would just be the silver strip. The green thingies may appear to be a background to you but are really just extra layers. Atleast thats what I think they do. Check out Aurora Lens that RT made for some cool drawer effects.

yes that's why group skinning doesn't work
or if you are building a complex 3d skin *id: 3d skin (C)<--*

Rus, I want to give it a try...
Do you have ICQ? or MSN?

Doesn't mean group skinning doesn't work. It works if you split tasks that aren't the same type. Like you wouldb't throw 2 people to work on the main GUI or they would conflict on graphic style and ideas. That is why I meant 2 to 3 people. Someone to do the graphics, someone to code, and someone to bring the 2 other guys their drinks and pizzas. Actually the third person probably isn't needed.

Talk to ya soon.

LunarBoy: I figure the silver bit would be the background.. I've just got no clue with the rest.

Oh, and I just realised the PSD has all the layers hidden.. so when you open it... show them

if you're gonna use acro's and shortcuts... do it for big words.. it just makes it so much easier to read when you dont have to decypher it before reading it.

anywho, i'm working on my own skin. and you all thought i was the guy behind the scenes masturbating. i've found that illustrator is awesome. you'll see.

Can I have that job Ice? Sitting behind the scenes masturbating sounds fun. Plus you get to be a mod for that. Dang your lucky. Whats your secret?

Anyways Illustrator is pretty cool if you know how to use it. Hope to see what you come up with.

excellent.

Wow, I'll have like, 2 versions of the one skin.

Maybe if no*name & Eximo wanna work on different parts of the code each... like one of you work on the sliding stuff and the other on all the buttons etc... that way things get done quicker and maybe if one person gets stuck, the other can help?

Just a suggestion.

Illustrator and a Winamp skin... interesting concept.. could work, will be interested to see your textures and the like.. can we have a screenie?

teams

yeah, i have my final exam tomorrow. can u tell im procrastinating studying for it some more? well anyhow, i'm going to have some time inteh coming weeks (ahem month) to look into winamp3 skinning. m quite optimistic about it but was also considering a kind of teams approach as you talk about. was thinking of a wa3 skin factory KIND of thing too. need to find people to work with though, for one thing.

I'd be interested in seting up a collaborative for skinning, to share knowledge etc. I have another designer onboard with me who i'm going to introduce to skinning with winamp3. but aack....the scripting. i want to learn the scripting but it would help a lot to have someone with more expertice in that area onboard. hopefully that would bear some funkier fruit. idealy the artists would know SOME coding and the coders would not be ignorant to the creative side . idealy it'd be good to have ap lay between the two. but aack. i'm definatly going to need someone's help getting started with this winamp 3 beta skinning.

look for lots of really really stupid questions from me on this board in a week or so. if i had a server i'd be keeping my progress and step-by-steps online. want to doccument what i learn as i learn it so later we can adapt it into a nice set tutorials complete with templates.

oh TRUST me dude, their goint ot be HELLAdumb questions.
like "duuh..how do you make a skin?" (no..not wuite THAT dumb...but still....pretty dumb". since i'll be learning this jazz from scratch and i dont want to sift through too much excess, and as i learn i'm going to be doccumenting the process for later adaption to a tutorial so when our winamp 3 skins ARE published we dont have to anser 10000 "how do u make a skin" emails. <groan>. so i want to get all the info i can but in the right order too.
