Best way to have Winamp Shoutcast run in the Background?
Alright, this is a REALLY precise and picky thing i'm trying to do, but if I can get it to work, I'll be happy as hell.
I want to have two Winamps open...one for Shoutcast that's on all the time, and the other for playing MP3s not part of the playlist. The Shoutcast Winamp shouldn't show any part of the DSP plugin at all...it should run totally in the background. I've gotten it to work before..here's how: 1. Shoutcast Winamp - I loaded the playlist in Winamp 2 and loaded Shoutcast. I had it start up when my computer starts up by adding it to my startup folder, then edited the Shoutcut so it started minimized. 2. The other Winamp - I used Winamp 3. Simple enough. My problem? I want to use Winamp 2 for both processes, the Shoutcast Winamp and the other Winamp Why? Because I hate hate hate hate hate Winamp 3...really really hate it. It's very unnecessarily slow. I first tried loading two different versions of Winamp 2 installed in two different folders, but it won't work properly. If I try to open the second Winamp, it won't load. I then tried using the Winamp 3 2.x.x. plugin manager, the one that lets you run Winamp 2 plugins in Winamp 3. I was going to use that for the Shoutcast Winamp. But, when I minimize Winamp 3, the DSP Plugin still shows. Yes, it's picky and precise (I mentioned that it was going to be at the beginning of the post), but does anyone think they could make it work? |

Null Mode - Multiple Instances.
Winamp (2.x) Is specifically designed
for multiple instances, and you do not need to "install another copy in a different folder" as you say. Simply click "Allow multiple instances" under options in winamp2, and then launch your second copy of winamp. Have your first copy run your station in the background using the null output plug, and then minimize the winamp so it's gone. Your second copy of winamp and your sound card can now be used as though the first copy of winamp were not even running. Sometimes what your are strugging to figure out how to do for weeks is little more than a checkbox in an options menu. As for winamp3, I agree with you. It's rediculous to produce a new version of something which is a downgrade, and yet, expect people to "upgrade" to it. WA3 is going to take some time, and it's future is honestly questionable.
