Im making a cover song cd and i only have a couple that i really like so it would be great if you all could help me and give me your favorite ones. Preferablly the songs could be more on the mellow side, like right now i have ben harper the drugs don't work and elliot smith jealous guy. thank you!

The best cover I've ever heard is definitely Metallica - Astronomy. The original by the Blue Öyster Cult sucked but this one blew it away. Download it if you haven't already. It is worth it. Especially the end.

Van Halen - You Really Got Me was originally by The Kinks and that version was pretty boring. VH made it fun and exciting.

Aerosmith - Come Together is pretty good. That was the first track off of The Beatles' Abbey Road. Steven adds his funny accents to it to make it better. And Joe Perry does a good guitar solo in there i think.

Bob Marley - I Shot The Sheriff I'm not sure if he did the original or it was Eric Clapton. But Bob Marley's version was nice. I got tired of it after the first 25 times.

Green Day - Longview The words are not a cover but part of the chorus is. I'm not sure who did it but Green Day made it much better.

Nirvana has a bunch off of the Unplugged album. Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam (The Vaselines Cover they are a Christian band); The Man Who Sold The World (David Bowie Cover); Plateau, Oh Me, and Lake Of Fire (all by the Meat Puppets); Where Did You Sleep Last Night? (Traditional Folk Song)

Guns n' Roses - Mama Kin an Aerosmith cover. Aero did a great song, but Axl's voice kinda messed it up. Still it is faster and Slash makes it seem more heavy metal.

Metallica - Whiskey In The Jar great song I never heard the original but it is by Thin Lizzy. It is an old Irish (I think) drinking song. Also Turn The Page that was original by Bob Seger. Tallica rocked it up.

I forgot David Lee Roth - California Girls. Original by The Beach Boys, DLR added his own crazy style into it, especially in the vid.

Playing in Winamp: Billy Joel - It's Still Rock And Roll To Me

I didn't know Tool did a cover of No Quarter. I always hated that song it is too weird sounding. Tool prolly did a good job fixing it up.

Jimi Hendrix's version of Hey Joe is probably my favourite cover.
