HMV to allow music downloads!
Well watching the news last night in the UK, it seems that finally a big firm has though, well if you cant beat em join em! For a monthly subscription HMV are planning to allow users to download a certain number of tracks, and keep a certain amount of them apparently? not sure of the exact details, but they are hoping that many people will want to support the artists, and actually pay money to be able to download the record company's original sound file. Certainly sounds like a step in the right direction, but would anyone here actually be willing to pay for the original file, and not just download ILLEGAL copies off the internet?

HMV are a ripoff, Andy's Records are such better value!
Nobody's going to pay this subscription though, why bother when you can get the songs free anyway? He uses statistics like a drunk uses lamp-posts: for support, not illumination. |

I would pay a subscription to a download site if i had unlimited downloads, and coudl keep them forever.
It won't happen though. |

I dont mind paying for the music, but its gotta be cheap. I ain't gonna buy a whole albumn when theres only 2 or 3 songs on it that I like. It costs too much.
I dont think this scheme will kick off well, as Winamprocker said HMV already rip us off witht their cd prices. I dont see them allowing us to download the tracks cheap enough |

If I could download music at, say, 192 quality mp3 then I would pay a small royalty fee (of, say 10 English pence per track) - provided most of the money went to the artist and it being a free format I could keep the tracks forever.

No. I admit, I own ILLEGAL mp3's. But I do buy alot of cd's so I justify my activities.
As much as I would like to give every artist what they deserve, it isn't gonna happen. Meaning one hit wonders get nothing!
