A letter from my Uncle Norman

My Uncle Norman went to "Ground Zero" today and took some pictures. He wrote me an eamil on what he thought of his day. I just thought I would share it with you.

I just came back from the World Trade Center, "Ground Zero" if you
will. I
took 25 pictures and I am going to send them now. First, I hope you
don't
mind some observations from me.

First thing you notice when you arrive on the scene are the 100s of
people
selling things. Tee shirts, books, pictures all the crude and nasy
things we
Americans can come up with to sell. I swear if NY Ciry was nuked the
tee
shirts would be for sale in New Jersey within a week. The second thing
is all
the people milling around, big video camers, still cameras all types of
cameras. All looking up at nothing, looking up at what was once there
trying
to visualize what what there, what happened. But the most important
thing is
the silence. Very little laughing, almost none of that, even just
general
chatter was subdued and respectful. It was eerie for NY. People from
all over
the world were there along with TV crews from everywhere as well. I
guess
because of the aniversary. Lots of TV interviews going on amoungst the
crowd.
If you didn't know what happened there you would think this was just
another
construction site, all the debris was gone. But you do know what
happened
here and I was touched.

Total mindless hatred did this. Will total mindless hatred solve it?

I have loved these forums for over a year. This is a place on the net I call my home. I have seen flaming going on at certain times in the forums, but please dont take a thread that I posted with my heart and turn it into something disgusting.

A) Chill, all of you. You'll see far worse then that just turning on your TV. It is too large, though. Consider changing to a smaller format immediately, before a mod has to warn you about it.

Is it just me that thinks that this is slightly perverse and screwed up? After all, would you go to a graveyard, or the site of a car crash to take photos of the wreckage??

I can't see why people go there unless they knew someone who died there. But all the tat that is being sold and the t-shirts etc is just disgusting.

I think that it is down to the people of New York to decide what is disrespectful. The tacky merchandise may well sit uncomfortably with many of us (myself included, btw), but the money that it generates goes directly into the economy of the city, which ultimately can only help speed the regeneration of New York, and thereby healing the wounds a little faster, hopefully.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong, I've never even been to New York sadly. But one day I will.

People love to be stupid. It doesn't matter how many people are hurt by someone selling T-shirts where so many people perished. To the scum that sell T-shirts (no matter what the content), it's just a matter of money on hand. Even if it says something strong, spiritual, and proper, people are still making money off of death. Tre`s uncool.
I wish I had that much time on my hands to order six thousand shirts and hawk them at a place of death and sadness. Where were these scum at the concentration camps? Why weren't there assholes there with Ball-caps and T-shirts that say "I smelled the air at Begen-Belsen"? WTF? It's as shallow as people who sell pieces of the WTC and missing posters and pictures of the WTC. It's sick and it's maddening.
