unable to hear OGG Vorbis files with Winamp

I have just installed Winamp3.

I have also started dabbling withencoding music using the OGG Vorbis encoder.

I encoded a few songs with EAC as a ripper and the newest version of the OGG encoder from the official Vorbis site.

to my amazement Winamp3 is unable to play those files wehreas Windows media player (tphewi!!) downloaded a decoder from the net and started playing on the spot.

I will apreciate a reply,
Thanks Itamar.

Ho dear...

I just found out that if you drag and drop the file on to Winamp3 it plays fine... but if you double click it it just opens Winamp3 and does nothing - BUG!!

It won't work for me no matter what. I don't know why it is like this, but this unfortunately makes me not want to use this player.

OGG and ID3 tags

I've just encountered the same problem with Winamp3, and I'm currently stripping out all the ID3V2 tags from my OGGs.

But -- I have to ask -- why did they play perfectly OK in Winamp 2.80? Couldn't the developers of Winamp 3 have just arranged for Winamp 3 to ignore them in the same way that Winamp 2.80 did?

Or was some anal retentive developer trying to force me not to use ID3 tags with OGG files?

I have just realised that if the file name is in Hebrew (I'm from Israel) then it won't play! (even with MP3s)

works fine on the old winamp!

BUG!

proper support for international filenames coming later, now stop asking.
if you have id3 tags in your ogg files, your files are corrupted and you should expect trouble; if anything else plays them, it's purely accidential (and probably related to the fact that wa2 doesn't do header checks to determine file format, while wa3 does).

any valid tags for ogg?

If ID3 tags don't work for OGG are there any tags that do work for OGG and Winamp3 or are OGG users just S.O.L.?
