Roughly 25 years experience, and still pulling NEWBIE Stunts!!!
For the Record, I've been using home computers since before High School. Call it roughly 25 years.
I'm sure that Microsoft is doing everything in their power to make Windows FOOLPROOF. As the First Law of Programing States "Most Users WILL be Itdiots!!!". Well, just let me tell you . . . I SHOWED THEM, I doubt that they ever imagined ANYONE pulling the stunt I just pulled. I know I never did. I was trying to Select a couple of Hundred (several hudred?) file to comprise the new playlist, and saw a misspelled Title. Yep! You Guessed it. I accidentally renamed ALL the selected files. Fortunately, I was only up to Bonnie Tyler, about 200 files called "Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler". Make something FoolProof, and Nature will make a bigger better fool! Fortunately, between Winamp, Real Player, WMP, and MP3 and their Web Sites, I think I've a rather good shot at renaming everything back to it's correct title. Game Theme's are going to be a headache though! |

How is that possible? Did you select them all and press F2? Surely that would rename only the first one selected or sommert. And you aren't allowed to have 200 files or even 2 with the same name in the same directory.

Re-renames them one at a time, so you can only recover a few. A bit stupid really...

Everyone is correct.
1) It did indeed Rename everytying *(1) - *(1??) 2) Yes, It WAS rather stupid. 3) Yes, I'm going over them, one by one, and I think I should be able to Restore the correct name to all of them in time. Between Recognizing some, Real Player, WinAmp, MP3.com, things are proceeding nicely, if less immediately than I'd like. I've made a great deal of work for myself. And all I wanted was a generic playlist *sigh*. |

Actually, what you discovered is one of the better features of Windows. The operating system now has built in intelligence, so that when it comes across multimedia files that are obviously crap (such as bonnie Tyler), it automatically purges them from the system...
