School or Beach
There is currently some unprecedentedly large surf coming in to the south shore of Oahu, but since the weekend is over, I'm now faced with a dilemma, be a good little boy and go to my Java programming and Physics lab classes, or ditch the classes and take advantage of the unusually large surf while it's still around...what would you do?

I guess that really depends on what you do in those classes and whether it would matter if you missed them - could you catch up on the work afterwards?

Both the teachers have a "no late work will be accepted or allowed" policy. As far as what would get done in the classes, neither one would expose me to anything that's really beyond my grasp, but in each there'd still be an introduction of new material, which I'd probably be too lazy to learn on my own.

i'd go surfing. You'll probably get caught out, and get into trouble for it...but you'll have a damn good time.

...to clarify, I'm at college (in Hawaii, with my parents back at home in Connecticut), so whether or not I go to class is completely at my discretion, the only consequence for not going being that I miss out on some education. |

1. Will it be difficult/impossible to catch up?
2. Will you miss any work deadlines? If the answer to both of those is no, then go surfing. Otherwise, you should go to class. For the freedom to express myself in my own way without fear of being censored or banned.47 65 6C 61 65 64 2E 63 6F 6D 00 |

Well the situation seems to have resolved itself...the surf report says the waves are expected to stick around all week and into the weekend (go crazy weather patterns!), so I can just wait until I actually have some free time to go and hit the waves, which has the added benefit of giving my muscles time to regenerate after last weekend's marathon surfing.

School is just one steep in your life, i'm 26 now and soon as possible I hope to get a job, which provide me money. And I will enjoy my hollydays on the beach like everyone does. But during your studies what is your goal, get a good education or get tan ?
Notheless you may have fun during your studies and it's the momment of your life for making good friends. So you may and must have fun as I done. But I follow a very an unsual way to study for a french men, I start my high education in a french university, they are the worst of the world maybe, than I study in Cambridge(UK)and a do learn a lot about myself and in diffrent fields law, art, music,busines,... and I have fun too and I meet good friends, very good one from all over the world and we stay in contac since we graduate. So if anyone here prefer beach, he do forgot that during your life, everyday you must have priority and reach a goal. So to the youngest people here, study and have some brakes and fun but you can be graduate in business laww not in drinking party. I wish you the best, as it happen to me, and enjoy |

That post just made going surfing all the more tempting, as it caused me to check the surf report again at http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/current/sp/surf and apparently that "High surf advisory" WASN'T cancelled after all...I've never seen what the south shore is like when the surf gets big enough to trigger a warning...

Invite your entire class to go surfing on the beach. That'll prompt the teachers to cancel class because no one showed up. Ofcourse you'll have to explain that you had the surfing sickness and went out to surf.

Well I just took a walk down to the beach to see what was going on, and this "High Surf Advisory" thing is overrated...the waves were 3 to 5 feet smaller than the ones that were coming in over this past weekend, and they were definately NOT 8 feet plus (the biggest one I saw was maybe 4.5 to 5 feet)...whoever decided to uncancel the advisory really dropped the ball on this one. Guess I'll be going to class...
