You can use either TotalRecorder, or Streambox ripper...I forget the URL's, but I'm sure that somebody who knows them will show up eventually...or you could just do a search.

Hm...since when are stream rippers illegal??? I know that the RealPlayer ppl were pissed off by StreamBox (mostly because StreamBox was designed specifically for ripping RealMedia audio...or so I've heard), but TotalRecorder has always been totally legit, to the best of my knowledge anyways. Are we going to start censoring anything that's even remotely controversial??? Regardless of its legality, TotalRecorder is an innovative and usefull (and possibly even essential) app, and something that no computer should be without, especially since companies are starting to get more and more fascist with their media protection schemes...if I want to transcode from format X to format Y, then companies have no right to tell me that I'm not allowed to do so...fuck them.

No. Once the quality is gone it's gone. There is no way to magically get it back.
True, there's no way you will ever make the files sound better than they already do, in fact, they'll probably end up sounding slightly worse.

stream rippers are illegal, if not in real life, on the forums because, since the CARP (or whatever) legistlation, you have to pay to broadcast online. thus, ripping streams is illegal because you aren't paying for it.

mmmm, i think that'll hold for now...

My understanding is that Joep218 was trying to transcode songs he already had on his HDD, not songs that he was streaming over the Internet (or other network), which in my view should be a legal application of either one of the rippers. Just because an app has the potential to break the law doesn't mean that it should be banned from discussion...a car can be used to mow down innocent pedestrians ala GTA3, but we don't make cars illegal now, do we (because the primary purpose of the car is to transport, not to kill)? In my opinion, TotalRecorder was made more with transcoding in mind (and also ripping sound from weird sources, like games, flash animation, and the like) than ripping stuff that is streamed over the Internet (Streambox is kind of a grey area, since it was designed for RealMedia, which is primarily a streaming format), and thus TotalRecorder, at least, should be tolerated.
