Uninstalled 3, problems with 2
I have had and love Winamp 1.x-2.x forever. I downloaded version 3 and found it EXTREMELY buggy and slow. I uninstalled it and reverted back to 2.8. Now my 2.x skins will not show up within the skin changer section of the program and although my MP3's are set to be associated with 2.8 and the icon reflects that, when I double click on an MP3, it opens the file within the player, but with a ~ in the file name and it will not play. Hoewver if I drag and drop the mp3 onto 2.8 it works. Please help. I'd hate to have to switch my mp3 player to MUSIC MATCH or Windows Media.
I tried reinstalling, no dice. PLEASE HELP.

For the skins problem, see here-
From the WA2 Skins & Plugins Tech Support Forum: Sticky: downloaded skins won't load As for the problem with opening mp3's from Explorer... Could you possibly post a screenshot of the playlist here? A ~ in the filename / playlist entry? ![]() I've not heard of this one before... pretty certain it's a forum first. Whereabouts in the entry does the ~ occur? At the start or end? Or in some random place in the middle somewhere? For now, try using Winamp's Open File dialog instead, by either clicking the Eject button in the main window (hotkey = L) or by using the Add button at the bottom of the playlist. What's your Windows OS ? I've a feeling your Windows file associations are screwed up somehow. The associations can be fixed via Windows Folder Options -> File Types tab, but I need to know what your Windows OS is first so I can give exact instructions (as it varies between different OS'es) |

Thanks for responding. I am running XP Professional.
Here is a screenshot of what happens when I double click on an MP3 and then when I drag and drop |

Aah, I see now.
Windows is sending Winamp the 8 character MS-DOS filename, which is pretty weird seeing WinXP isn't built on DOS like Win9x ![]() I'm not 100% sure about the exact settings for WinXP, but for Win2k/ME: Go to Windows Folder Options -> File Types tab Scroll down for & hi-lite MP3 Click "Advanced" Default action should be: Play in Winamp Command line (c/o Edit button) should be: "C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" "%1" |
