leaked stuff................

i was just wondering how things get leaked from companies such as microsoft? e.g. msn messenger 5 was leaked waaaaaaaay before it actully was released, is it cos microsoft's security sucks ass so much that they lose things like that to people who will leak stuff?

In the same way that official documents are leaked. Someone obtains a copy in a way they're not supposed to and sells it to the hungry pack. With software, it gets thrown around the internet. My mate has a pre-release version of Scooby Doo (the movie) that was somehow leaked from the studio and made it to divx. It's not properly edited or anything.

Someone nicked it. Simple.

My guess is that these things get leaked by regular employees who either don't care about the "security" of MS's products, or who are paid by some third party to get a pre-release copy of a product...it's always been my theory that most software cracking groups have at least a few members who hold programming positions at major companies and who have no qualms about supplying their group with pre-release copies of software, or about telling them other "secrets" related to the program design/security.

I blame this guy...

I am so important I feel the need to let it be known like a liberal discovering the internets for the first time. Uh hur hur hur. I also wash myself with a rag on a stick.

interns or programming contractors or "new guys".... When these kind of people start working on stuff, it probably goes on the hard drive, in the brief case, maybe it even makes it to the household. Then one night over a bottle or two of table wine and a few friends..... I bet that's how stuff gets leaked.
