hmm, do you have a folder with the skinname and the bmp files in it? I know that sounds simplistic... but let us know what are you doing as far as file names and all and I'm sure someone will know why

HELP

I named my folder IceAmpFTC and moved all of the bmps into it. I also moved all of the other files - viscolor.txt, pledit.txt, cursors etc., into it as well. Was that my mistake? I did that because when I looked at the baseskin zip file all that stuff was in there so I kind of followed along. I haven't changed any file names....just the ext. from zip to wsz to load it.

all the files should be in the one folder..

are you sure you have all the bmps named correctly?

perhaps you could post the wsz file so we can have a look at how you have things set up, it might make it easier to see whats wrong

Try the attached version. It seems to be working now...

I don't understand why it did not work before. All I have done is convert all the bmps from Indexed Colour to RGB colour.

File Type: zip ice amp ftc.zip (36.3 KB, 129 views)

That's it!!! I never thought to look at that. Could I have made those conversions in Corel Photo Paint/image/convert? By the way - THANK YOU!!!! Now I can finish the rest of it and FIX THE BUGS!! Do you have any ideas or comments about the skin? I'm still learning and NEED critique and anything else that puts me into a coma!!

good news
I guess you must have made some changes with 'Corel Photo Paint/image/convert' .
As I understand it, Winamp should accept indexed-colour bmps (the base skin is indexed colour!). Using indexed colour results in smaller bmp sizes and a smaller wsz . Maybe there is something peculiar about the way PhotoPaint does the indexing?

When you've finished the skin, if you wanted to make the file size smaller you could do this - convert all bmps to indexed, then back to RGB. Then zip. The individual bmps will have the usual file size, but they will compress much smaller when zipped.

Your skin looks promising. There is some nice detail emerging around the edges of main. It would be nice to see this continue into the larger areas and buttons. Keep customising !

For more feedback you should post a screen-shot. It is a fine start for your first skin. Stick around this forum, you might learn a few insiders skinning tips
For example did you know you can cut out the button on the volume slider?

...and cutting out the volume sliders allows for animations that aren't obscured by some huge-ass button. (same goes for the balance bar)

Can we have a link?

If you submitted it to winamp.com, keep in mind it will take a while (days/weeks) before it is reviewed and published. In that case, come back with a link when it is published
