Winamp3.exe -> make dummy studio.exe
I just found out that the current developer builds of Winamp3 have Winamp3.exe as the main executable and not Studio.exe. I know tons of installers for components that check for studio.exe to verify if a valid WA3 directory is chosen, so all these installers would break.
Instead of having these people repackage all their components, resubmit them and having the review recheck them for no apparent reason, why not provide a dummy studio.exe with the next build, that simply calls winamp3.exe when someone executes it? That way you still get backwards compatibility at a minor cost. And who was crazy enough to suggest a change like this after the major release of Winamp3? This is something that should've been done before it was out, or not at all Before I get flamed that checking for the executable is not the RightWayToDoThings(tm), I recall it's something people copied from PiMP. There are also tons of people who copy Winamp from a backup to their harddrive, without having the installation registry keys that point to the winamp path. It's also useful if you make something for both Winamp2/Winamp3 and the user enters the path to Winamp himself: if winamp.exe is in it, it's WA2, if studio.exe is in it, it's WA3. |
