7000+ ravers can't be wrong

Hi All,
Attached is a photo from a recent Rave in Australia "Eartchore, November 30 2002". www.earthcore.com.au

I managed to get myself some floorspace and borrowed a video wall from an old electronics friend.

Then I pulled as many AVS presets from Winamp.com as I could handle and began sorting according to style and quality.

If anyone would like some more/higher res images
loungeroom@hotmail.com
i've only got a few more.

Thanks to the developers of Winamp for a truly inspiring product.

Thanks to all the designers of AVS presets, whoever you are, you are the creative soul of music appreciation.

Thanks to the organisers of earthcore for letting me "get it out there" to all the party people.

loungeroom.

so,
the rave was held in a volcanic crater forming a natural amphitheatre. wicked sound.

in vwallre1.jpg you can see the controller (large box with monitor on top) and my PC which is running winamp 2.8 and AVS.

the controller takes a single video image and splits it into frames for each display screen according to configuration (3x3, 4x4, single image, multiple images etc...)

The wall and controller is worth about $15,000 local currency.

To produce video i'm using an ASUS v7100 GeForce MX400 with TV/Out, giving me the comp. video source for the wall. You may notice in the VWallFr1.jpg that the image doesn;t completely fill the screen because of the video cards underscan on comp. video. i moitor the show from behind the wall by havig winamp render using the desktop overlay, while i fiddle the controls

finally, in the leadup to earthcore, i had the wall in my house... totally wicked !

which one aj ?
My tv out video card was $150 'bout 12 mnths ago.

the video wall controller alone is about $10,000
then you need to buy 9 tv screens.

ps: this picture is taken from the volcanic rim, early in the day.

I must say the multi screen TV via a video wall controller seems a expensive way of doing things. I hope you had a big ass projector for the night time.

ANd of course you asked all the preset authors permission first.

BTW the AVS ppl can be found at the AVS forums.

neat - i always wondered if people actually used AVS for events - places i've been they've always had these elaborate FX which just don't touch at all on AVS...

Wooow... Wooow.... Wooow.....

You browsed winamp.com for the presets? I believe browsing Deviantart.com would be wiser =)

Hi all,
I'm certainly conscious of all the hard work put in by the AVS designers and the developers of winamp (but i had to lug every damn TV !)

I've never attempted to mislead by representing winamp as my own software and always hand out the URL to anyone who is interested.

I use slightly modified versions of AVS intro screens (where available) so that as AVS cycles through presets, names and preset packs get exposure.

People have suggested that revealing winamp as the source of graphics is a mistake (since winamp is freely available means anyone can do it with no cost of entry) but,
a) i couldn't deny the true authors their kudos
b) i actually believe that someone else will try it and it will spur a little competition.

ok, one downside to the whole video wall thing is that on the ground, it's impossible to see from just a couple of rows back. Yes, I think from now on I'll be using projectors (one, many ??)

It cost me more money to do the gig than I got and quite frankly I'm out there to enhance people's raving experience. A couple of guys doing pre-rendered movies couldn't believe I had the balls to run Wnamp in front of such a large crowd. I say "why the hell not!"

loungeroom.
ps: thanks for the deviantArt link

Just for fun, you may want to try run some demos some day.

If you have a big screen TV, the TV-Out cable, and some AVS's then you can host a rave party at your house and make it look like the mtv music awards. Acidspunk is a great avs! But great shots there loungeroom!

thanks to all for your praise and well wishes. this thread is a thank you to you all for producing the mind blowing grafx that is AVS.

I'd read some posts recently discussing the direction of overlays to
a particular display. this was attractive because until recently i had to resize the independant AVS window over my comp. video output desktop to simulate a full screen of AVS (since by default all desktop rendering went to desktop 1, my control monitor). I downloaded the latest nVidia drivers and 'lo, i beheld a magnificent sight, AVS rendered on both desktops and I still had the independant AVS window to play with. rockin'...

reply to hestermofet - I had a look at your "some demos" link, which points at the Monostep site, populated only with a couple of slideshows of industrial equipment. Nice shots. but i didn't find any demos. what gives ?

hopefully the next gig will feature a video projector (at least one) for a better view by all concerned and I'd love to work in some live video using an AVS plugin.

one last point, slow avs are also appreciated. in our rush to produce faster, brighter, snazzier AVS, most of the presets out there are quite 'fast'. their transitions between colours are fast or jump and wiggle frenetically to the beat. quite a few 'non-computer' people have commented that slow transitions and movements also look cool when approached the right way and that a whole night of jumping and wiggling AVS gets a little tiring on the nerves.

ok, so your already formulating your flame to tell me why it's your right to design a preset any damn way you please, and speaking of which where the hell are my presets if I'm so damn good? fair enuf, i thought i might mention it for all the AVS designers who aren't a*holes.

goodwill on earth
peace t'ward all men

What I can't understand is why you want to lug all those essentially 'Monitors' around for.
HOW MUCH and then you have to bye the sets Fooping Double
No offence but we use LCD Projection. Cost about 4-5000[euro's] for a good model, and allthough crap in daytime sorted at night and if you get the full Cinematogrophic [whatever the spelling is] you can go 20ft high x 40ft wide.+ when set up right you can create that effect of multiple screens. Not sure how it's done though. I'd have to ask our VIS king, 'Gandalf'.
We did a gig once where we lit up a plastic screen stretched over the front of an open frame building. Awesome sight. I think some piccy's were taken I'll try track them down for you.
Like I say crap in daytime but many times lighter to carry. we're lazy sod's
Nice one though and awesome gear

loungeroom,

Please feel free to let us all know of upcoming rave events in Australia (specifically Brisbane for me ) by posting their details on this forum. There are enough of us Aussies here to warrant it.

Cheers mate.

Peace

ps. Not that I'm too lazy to go to your (or others') sites or anything.. =D
