wow, great film, mobile rang during it so I sank inmy seat a little

mmm, that elf with the long blond hair with a weird name is cute.
wasnt dissapointed at all, smeggle rocked and the tress thing? funny as hell

I like the way that nobody laughed in the film, a few more mature adult films is what we need, its not healthy being happy all the time.

**Spoilers**

Things I hated:
- The entire Arwen thing. She plays fuck all part in the books, deal with it. I know that a movie needs a female lead, but still.

- Faramir is a good guy! Grrr....

- Aragorn falling off a cliff. Shite.

- Legolas' "We're all doomed" speech. WAY out of character there.

- It was too short (3 hours, heh). Helm's Deep was wrapped up too quickly, and we never saw Saruman's banishment. If they cut The Scouring of the Shire from Return of the King I am going to be severely pissed off.

- Some of the editing in the last hour was mistimed, I feel. Cutting from Helm's Deep straight into Entmoot wrecked the flow.

Things I loved:
- Gollum: I cannot believe how much emotion and depth was crammed into a digital character. I sincerely hope George Lucas is crying into his ridiculous beard. Jar-jar Binks can fuck off.

- Isengard. Same as the last film. Everything about Isengard was just realised so perfectly. (But I do miss Flotsam and Jetsam, though)

- Éowyn. She is fucking gorgeous.

- Helm's Deep. Absolutely amazing. It is only the second (third?) biggest battle in the trilogy, so better is yet to come. I cannot wait.

Overall:
Loved it. But the amount of loose ends Peter Jackson has left, The Return of the King will either be 4-5 hours long, or it'll be completely butchered. I sincerely hope the former...

Prepare to be pissed then, Jackson has already gone on record as saying the scouring of the shire has been cut from ROTK, it was paid lip service in the Fellowship and that's all it's getting, taken from an interview in last months Empire magazine.....

I am not a happy man... That chapter made the entire trilogy, it showed that what they were fighting for wasn't some high ideal of Good vs. Evil, but actually they were fighting for their own homes and families. And more importantly, that for evil to triumph it only needs good people to do nothing. GRRRRRR... I saw this coming when we didn't see Saruman get booted out.

i agree.

To state one of my conspiracy theories, "Peter Jackson lied about cutting the scouring of the Shire from ROTK so that it will be that much more unexpected."

We can but hope. It would take an hour though. But it'd be brilliant!

There are some parts where everyone laughed a little.

I'm with Xerxes. Far too much uneeded stuff in there. I thought stretching part one to 3 hours was a bit much, but now another 3 hours of what is really the same thing... walking.. fighting.. another battle.. some more walking.. then another battle.

Tiresome. The way this is being dragged out it'll be a 10 film series.

But that is what all the books are about, although the film concentrated on the first half of the book.

With all the people who grew up in the 70's and 80's becoming old enough to make movies and such, we should be seeing a lot more movies based on fantasy epics such as LotR. This makes me happy. I hope they do the "Belgariad" or "Shannarah" series. Who knows, the way movie production is going and as much money gets poured into it, we may some day see the entire "Wheel of Time" series up on the screen. That would be nuts...

Movie was ok....but second one did not convey the sense of hopelessness Tolkein created throughout the second book....

I am so important I feel the need to let it be known like a liberal discovering the internets for the first time. Uh hur hur hur. I also wash myself with a rag on a stick.

I wonder. There are many good fantasy series. I would like to see some Forgotten Realms books made into films.

Thats sad, ofcourse you'll be paying about $17 for the movie on dvd anyway. It doesn't hurt to view it before owning it.

That would bemuse anyone. The book is hard enough to read, let alone make into a film.
