Voice Recording

I was wondering if anyone knows of a program that can record audio from a mic (non-restricted amounts of time), and encode it in mp3 format? Just something that I can do dictation to. OR, if there is one that I do not know of yet, are there any plugins available to do this?

Uhm, Windows Sound Recorder? You can record unlimited amounts of time in that thing, you just have to remember to keep pressing Record

I have no life

Winamp can do that. You just have to have a LineIn plug-in to record from the microphone while you use the diskwriter plugin to record it to your hard drive. Then you can encode it with whatever encoder you want. There's also mp3 encoder plug-ins for Winamp that can do this.

At least I think that'll work. I've never tried recording from the mic directly to disk with Winamp before.

I've done it with winamp before, but I forgot where I got the plugin or what it was called.

CrazyDude, unfortunatly your idea wouldn't work for me if I want to record 20 mins or so, because I would be cut off 20 times.

sgtfuzzbubble99, you were SO CLOSE! damn... it works fine, and records....but then, when I stop the recording, winamp crashes and makes the mp3 file corrupt

anyone else have suggestions?

That sounds like a problem with the plug-in to me... try looking for another LineIn plug-in and see if it works better. I had an older one, but I can't find it.

Also, are you using an mp3 encoder plug-in to record directly to mp3, or are you using the diskwriter plug-in to save them as wav files first? Because if you use the diskwriter, the file won't be corrupted if it gets cut off... the end of the wav file will just sound clipped. Then you can just use a wav editor and crop the end of the file off, and then you can encode it to mp3.

lol. that sounds really tedious... I was using the disk writer to record it to mp3.

maybe there is a separate program that could record into mp3 for me? The main things I want is bitrate of my choice, the ability of pausing, and on the fly encoding into mp3... that way, there is no temp wav file, and there is no wait in the end.
