netfury, i was referring to the thread i pointed out, the search result came up with a load of irrelevant tech support threads.

what i am trying to say is that this question has been asked THOUSANDS of times already.

isn't it great? my block is limited to 250Kbytes/s though due to it being an old testbed or something.

it isn't too bad. downloading stuff at 200k/sec is good fun (wednesday lunch time - NOBODY ELSE is using the connection...it's all mine!)

are you on a major node? people who don't have limited blocks in mine get far more than 200k/s (we've had it over 1MB/s).

we're annoyingly proxy blocked though. - we get unrestricted (pretty much) connections in labs but we only get the web proxy for external connections from our rooms.

that said, i don't really care too much about that

aha - neat. edinburgh's one of the main servers, and i'm (in theory) connected to that, which would explain the difference...

And On that day, the Lords of the land said unto their Master Architect, "The temple you have made to the gods of Wasabi and Maki has brought us no great prosperity" and they sent out him into the lands.

As he traveled to a far off land, he found he wasn't traveling alone, but that he had gained companions, and when they found their new land, they started work on a new temple, one that would be OPEN to all who wanted to worship.

JANET too

Though only for HTTP... ghey

Everything else for the residential net at uni is squeezed down what I *think* is a leased line at about 2Mbps
I can upload via FTP really fast but download is appalling

Yes I've been surfing the internet for days, but I just cant seem to find any porn. Not one thing not even one 3kb gif, I've searched many search engines and asked on many forums but no porn. It would be a good idea to have porn on this fair internet. Imagine that. to think human beings being the sexual dieviants that they are and no porn on such a unpoliced information superhighway, I was also looking for someone to rip me off via credit card number but no luck there either. You just cant find good degeneracy these days !!!

Locally, I have a 100 megabit/sec lan connection. But, since that doesn't really count, I have a wimpy 1.5 megabit/sec cable connection.

Damn you. Quit your complaining. Take a look at this attached fucker. I hate my motherfucking ISP; it's a motherfucking bitch. I called them tonight to bitch about the fucking snail speed and all they could say is that the wet weather is causing noise in the phone lines. Even on a crystal clear day, the best I can get is 33.8Kbps. Somebody should award me the Metal of Patience. And yet, I have downloaded an estimated 3GB of files/movies/music on my dialcrap bitch. That's so even with my bitch of an ISP having an 8-hour disconnect policy. (After 8 hours, I am booted off the network) :fuckingmad: But even with all that, I just checked my usage log on their site, and from December 25 through January 13, I have been online a total of 236 hours, 16 minutes, and 42 seconds. Somebody either give me a life or give me broadband, or you will be reading my obituary very fucking soon.

Forgive the crap quality of the screenshot, but I didn't want to wait long to upload the file.

Ditto.

But my 1.5 megabit/sec cable connection is only testing at 900k because my little brothers computer is running kazaa right now.

i got a test result of 540.9 kilobits per second, which is a bit disappointing, considering the connection speeds i usually get. i reckon it's because the network's under heavy usage right now...
