Media Library - Adding Tracks?
Hey all.
On the whole, all the ideas brought forth in Winamp 3 strike me as a positive step towards bettering mankind. However... With over 100GBs of music, creating a media library from scratch is ... impossible, at best - if not also nerv-wreckingly annoying. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, so here's what I do: - Fire up Winamp3, - Open up the Media Library - "Add To Library" -> "Add Directory" - Point it to my root MP3 dir - Wait for it to add them all. Great, now they're all added. But are they indexed yet? No. Can I select the artists in the 'Artist' field at the top, yet? No. What do I have to do? Scroll over all the songs individually, so they get their ID3 tags read and added to the library proper. Try doing that with over 20,000 individual files. If that's the only way to do it, I suggest Winamp 3 ship with a trained monkey - or llama? - to add them all for you, while you're out frolicking in anticipation of having a ... MEDIA LIBRARY! Oh, and how do I REMOVE things from my media library easily? I don't want to have to select all the songs and remove them manually. That's nonsense - why not be able to select the artist in the artist field at top and remove it there?! Once it's all added (I had a friend with a smaller amount of MP3s, did it all by hand), it's sweetness. As for the excuse that reading too many MP3 ID3 tags at once, that's nonsense. The 'professional' tagging tools out there (ID3-TagIT, www.id3-tagit.de) read my entire collection in about a minute, on a fairly slow processor, 1.2GHz Duron. It's possible to read out tags quickly and store them in a database easily... Anyway, I've ranted enough now. Take care. |

Yeh, it sucks at the moment. It's getting better slowly - at the moment you can't delete stuff and you can't have it "track" a directory.

So, what you're saying is, hang on to your seats and wait in ecstatic anticipation for a newer, better, useable media library?
That's fine, I can deal with that. I've been using Winamp 2.80 all this time, I'll just continue using it until the Media Library reaches a state near completion and perfection :P Thanks for the quick reply. |
