1/5-1/50 speed songs !?
Well, I found a bug that makes songs play REALLY slow. I was using about 50% of my ram divided between winamp, a game, blueamp, internet explorer, and aim, as well as the background apps for windows 98. all of a sudden, my songs started to play slowly.
I minimized the game, and pressed the play button and winamp started to play the song normally. It's not a big bug, and it took me nearly 3 hours of trying, then an accident 3 hours later (bah) to reproduce it. (btw, at points, the songs will be a bit faster than they were a moment ago.) [edit] oh yeah, after freeing up some ram, it stayed slow, but just pressing the play btton fixes the bug, even at high RAM usage. |

Nar, no way is this a Winamp bug.
What's your system specs? CPU, RAM, motherboard, soundcard, videocard, DirectX version. Win98 First Edition or Win98SE? Using Winamp 2.81 with wa2update patch? Using DirectSound or WaveOut output? Songs? What format(s)? Which game? What is blueamp? |

It's an Aptiva IBM (no clue what the model # is, and it doesn't say on the case)
CPU - Pentium III 345 mhz RAM - 96 Mb motherboard - unknown sound card - unknown video card - unknown Direct X - unknown, but it's at least DX v8.1, because i remember downloading and using the update Wave Output (direct sound doesn't work for some reason) songs - .MP3 and (ugh) .WMA Game - Intergallactic Paintball (downloaded version, not flash version, from www.shockwave.com) Blueamp - Hotkey controlling program (only compatible with WA 2.X) - http://www.iawix.com/forums/viewforu...75d8d35b8ba1e6 (that link is the page of the programmer.) Windows 98 (not special edition) Winamp 2.81 no patch (i just found out that there was a patch o.O), but if it makes any difference, i had to reinstall WA about 3-4 days ago (most of the browser wasn't working at all) [EDIT] oh, yeah, i don't have Blueamp 2.0, but I have 2.1 beta. (gogo beta testing). only diff - Iawix added 2 options to the hotkeys, and fixed a bug. |

345MHz
Ok, how much of your resources are free when this weird phenomenum occurs? (Right click "My Computer" -> properties -> performance tab) While you're in there, go to Device Manager tab Expand: Display Adapter Tell us what your video card/chip is Expand: Sound....Controllers Tell us what your sound card/chip is Start -> programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system information Go to: Software Environment -> Running Tasks Edit Menu -> Select All Edit Menu -> Copy Open Notepad, paste the text, save the .txt file, then upload it here as a file attachment. Or, if the list isn't too big, just paste the text here in a new post. Repeat the same for: Software Environment -> Startup Programs If uploading a .txt file, include both lists in the same file, but include a marker as to where one list ends and the other list starts. Whilst you're in System Info Tool, also take a look in: Components -> Problem Devices Any problems listed here? if so, which? You can also find out more info about sound & video cards/chips/drivers in the Multimedia section. I advise that you: 1) Visit the manufacturers' sites and download the latest sound & video drivers. Note: if either of the sound or video are onboard chips (as opposed to proper plug&play pci/agp cards), then you will need to know your motherboard details and download the updated drivers from the relevant manufacturer. 2) Don't run too many cpu-intensive apps at the same time (345MHz w/ 96mb ram under Win98 simply isn't powerful enough for multi-tasking) The fact that you say "DirectSound doesn't work" suggests you've got problems. Could you expand a bit more on "doesn't work" Any error messages? etc DirectX Diagnostic Tool: Start -> Run -> DXDIAG Version # is at the bottom of the first page Also look in all the other tabs and check to see if any errors are listed. And make sure you install wa2update patch. Finally, does the problem still occur if you (temporarily) remove the blueamp gen plugin. As stated in the Sticky threads at the top of this Bugs forum, we do not support problems caused by 3rd-party plugins here. |
